Most people would relate to the typical floor plan of a 1980's Brick Veneer home. Disconnected living spaces with closed off rooms, the original layout comprised of a u shaped kitchen with an archway leading to the adjoining dining area that hooked around to a living room behind the kitchen wall. The client had put a lot of thought into their requirements for the renovation, knowing building works would be involved. After seeing Ultimate Kitchens and Bathrooms projects feature in various magazines, they approached us confidently, knowing we would be able to manage this scale of work alongside their new dream kitchen. Our designer, Beata Brzozowska worked closely with the client to gauge their ideals. The space was transformed with the archway wall between the being replaced by a beam to open up the run of the space to allow for a galley style kitchen. An idealistic walk in pantry was then cleverly incorporated to the design, where all storage needs could be concealed behind sliding doors. This gave scope for the bench top to be clutter free leading out to an alfresco space via bi-fold bay windows which acted as a servery. An island bench at the living end side creates a great area for children to sit engaged in their homework or for another servery area to the interior zone. Contemporary German Kitchen in Horsham, West Sussex A rethink of this Horsham kitchen helped create a new functional island space, new kitchen entrance and matching utility. The Brief This client sought to make changes to their previous kitchen involving a rethink of their kitchen island, in addition to an all-round modernisation. From early project conversations it was clear that well organised storage was key, as well as including plenty of worktop space. As part of the project, creating a new doorway into the kitchen was also required, as well as an in keeping renovation of a utility space. Design Elements Designer Alistair has utilised a layout not dissimilar from the previous kitchen, instead replacing stand-alone island with a peninsula island space connected to the kitchen. This minor layout change helped to incorporate the vast worktop space this client required, as well as the social island area that the client desired. A subtle two-tone theme was another wish of the client, with glossy handleless finishes Satin Grey and Slate Grey contributing to the contemporary aesthetic of this space. The design is accompanied by plenty of lighting options to add a further modern feel, including undercabinet downlights, ceiling downlights and plinth lighting. Behind the hob a glass splashback has been included which has been chosen in a black shimmer finish, complimenting the overall design as well as the white quartz work surfaces, named Snowy Ibiza. Special Inclusions The client was keen to keep the kitchen area feeling light and spacious, and so another key part of the design was the use of full-height cabinetry to house the majority of appliances. Here a number of Neff appliances feature, including a Slide & Hide oven, combination oven, warming drawer, refrigerator and freezer which have both been integrated behind furniture. A Neff hob has been placed just to the side, above which a built-in Neff extractor is integrated to remove any cooking odours. Opposite, a Quooker boiling water tap has been installed above a Blanco quartz composed sink which ties in nicely with the chosen work surface. Looking towards the utility area, sideboard style furniture has been included as a space to store small appliances that are used daily, as well as cupboard space for added extra storage. Here you can also see the new doorway into the kitchen, which leads from the hallway of this property. Project Highlight A matching utility upgrade was a key part of this project, and designer Alistair was tasked with integrating extra storage, laundry appliances, plus a small sink area. This area makes use of Satin Grey furniture and a laminate work surface option. Beneath the work surface you might also spot a bed area for this client’s pooch. The End Result For this project designer Alistair has created a clever design to achieve all the elements of this project brief, including an important island change and a matching utility. Our client wanted a functional kitchen with plenty of counter and storage space. We created this design in the same footprint of the existing kitchen, but switched up some of elements. Adding a double oven, vent hood and pantry storage we were able to maximize the use of space.

We opened up the wall on the left to create more space and light into the kitchen and exposed the concrete walls of the condo building to give a little raw/industrial touch to the space. Features Wolf custom cabinets and modern lighting with skinny profile fridge and get LVT throughout the unit.

A cabinet "peninsula" was removed. Fridge was relocated, added a water line. New flooring from living room to garage entry. New cabinets, countertops, with a new undermount sink. New appliances as well. These items will literally change the entire look of your home!

For this Hove project designer Aron has combined traditional grey woodgrain furniture with sparkling white quartz work surfaces. The Brief These Hove clients required a modernisation of their kitchen space with some present-day innovations to increase functionality. In terms of style, a fusion of traditional and modern styles was needed, with an in-frame door preferred. The favoured layout was very similar to the previous, as it made the best use of the space available. A flooring improvement was also a key part of the project. Design Elements With the layout remaining quite similar, the most drastic changes to this kitchen were in the style. To achieve the modern and traditional feel, designer Aron has utilised the wood-grained Modern Classic furniture option from British supplier Mereway. It combines the in-frame structure with a traditional wood grain door front, and for this project has been used in a Castle Grey finish with cornice on full-height and wall units. The cabinetry and joinery used for this project has been handmade by our British supplier and is equipped with dovetail joinery and oak internals for drawers. A peninsula island was specified as per the previous design, which utilises sparkling quartz work surfaces in a White Attica finish. A tall door in the corner of the kitchen space appears to be extra storage, but in fact opens up to an existing pantry space. Special Inclusions A high-specification of Neff appliances has been used for this project. A Neff Slide & Hide single oven, Neff built-in microwave, Neff flexInduction hob, Neff extractor hood and Neff dishwasher all feature in the kitchen, along with the client's own American fridge freezer. For general use, a mixer tap and under-mounted 1.5 bowl Blanco have been specified, with useful drainer grooves fabricated into the work surface. Another special inclusion was the flooring, which has been improved throughout the entire kitchen and dining area. The chosen finish is a stone effect Karndean option named Grey Riven Slate. Project Feedback “My wife and I cannot speak highly enough of our recent kitchen and bathroom installations. Alexanders were terrific all the way from initial estimate stage through to handover. All of their fitters and staff were polite, professional, and very skilled tradespeople. We were very pleased that we asked them to carry out our work. “ The End Result The end result is a kitchen that achieves all the elements of the brief and more. A preferred layout has been adhered to, and the theme does really well to combine both the modern and traditional elements required. The kitchen and bathroom renovations have resulted in a large Main House with modern grey accents. The kitchen was upgraded with new quartz countertops, cabinetry, an under-mount sink, and stainless steel appliances, including a double oven. The white farm sink looks excellent when combined with the Havenwood chevron mosaic porcelain tile. Over the island kitchen island panel, functional recessed lighting, and pendant lights provide that luxury air. Remarkable features such as the tile flooring, a tile shower, and an attractive screen door slider were used in the bathroom remodeling. The Feiss Mercer Oil-Rubbed Bronze Bathroom Vanity Light, which is well-blended to the Grey Shakers cabinet and Jeffrey Alexander Merrick Cabinet Pull in Matte Black serving as sink base cabinets, has become a centerpiece of this bathroom renovation.
