Featured in the November 2008 issue of Phoenix Home & Garden, this "magnificently modern" home is actually a suburban loft located in Arcadia, a neighborhood formerly occupied by groves of orange and grapefruit trees in Phoenix, Arizona. The home, designed by architect C.P. Drewett, offers breathtaking views of Camelback Mountain from the entire main floor, guest house, and pool area. These main areas "loft" over a basement level featuring 4 bedrooms, a guest room, and a kids' den. Features of the house include white-oak ceilings, exposed steel trusses, Eucalyptus-veneer cabinetry, honed Pompignon limestone, concrete, granite, and stainless steel countertops. The owners also enlisted the help of Interior Designer Sharon Fannin. The project was built by Sonora West Development of Scottsdale, AZ.

For this new family home, the interior design aesthetic was sleek and modern. A strong palette of black, charcoal and white. Black VJ wall cladding adds a little drama to this entrance. Built by Robert, Paragalli, R.E.P Building. Wall cladding by Joe Whitfield. Photography by Hcreations.

Edwardian Remodel with Modern Twist in San Francisco, California's Bernal Heights Neighborhood For this remodel in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights, we were the third architecture firm the owners hired. After using other architects for their master bathroom and kitchen remodels, they approached us to complete work on updating their Edwardian home. Our work included tying together the exterior and entry and completely remodeling the lower floor for use as a home office and guest quarters. The project included adding a new stair connecting the lower floor to the main house while maintaining its legal status as the second unit in case they should ever want to rent it in the future. Providing display areas for and lighting their art collection were special concerns. Interior finishes included polished, cast-concrete wall panels and counters and colored frosted glass. Brushed aluminum elements were used on the interior and exterior to create a unified design. Work at the exterior included custom house numbers, gardens, concrete walls, fencing, meter boxes, doors, lighting and trash enclosures. Photos by Mark Brand.

A simple desert plant palette complements the clean Modernist lines of this Arcadia-area home. Architect C.P. Drewett says the exterior color palette lightens the residence’s sculptural forms. “We also painted it in the springtime,” Drewett adds. “It’s a time of such rejuvenation, and every time I’m involved in a color palette during spring, it reflects that spirit.” Featured in the November 2008 issue of Phoenix Home & Garden, this "magnificently modern" home is actually a suburban loft located in Arcadia, a neighborhood formerly occupied by groves of orange and grapefruit trees in Phoenix, Arizona.
