A poky upstairs layout becomes a spacious master suite, complete with a Japanese soaking tub to warm up in the long, wet months of the Pacific Northwest. TWD remodeled a few aspects of this home in order for the homeowner to essentially have a mother-in-laws quarters in the home. This bathroom was turned into a Universal Design and safety conscious bathroom all to own, a custom niche was built into the wall to accommodate a washer/dryer for her independence, and a hall closet was converted into a guest bathroom. THE SETUP Upon moving to Glen Ellyn, the homeowners were eager to infuse their new residence with a style that resonated with their modern aesthetic sensibilities. The primary bathroom, while spacious and structurally impressive with its dramatic high ceilings, presented a dated, overly traditional appearance that clashed with their vision. Design objectives: Transform the space into a serene, modern spa-like sanctuary. Integrate a palette of deep, earthy tones to create a rich, enveloping ambiance. Employ a blend of organic and natural textures to foster a connection with nature. THE REMODEL Design challenges: Take full advantage of the vaulted ceiling Source unique marble that is more grounding than fanciful Design minimal, modern cabinetry with a natural, organic finish Offer a unique lighting plan to create a sexy, Zen vibe Design solutions: To highlight the vaulted ceiling, we extended the shower tile to the ceiling and added a skylight to bathe the area in natural light. Sourced unique marble with raw, chiseled edges that provide a tactile, earthy element. Our custom-designed cabinetry in a minimal, modern style features a natural finish, complementing the organic theme. A truly creative layered lighting strategy dials in the perfect Zen-like atmosphere. The wavy protruding wall tile lights triggered our inspiration but came with an unintended harsh direct-light effect so we sourced a solution: bespoke diffusers measured and cut for the top and bottom of each tile light gap. THE RENEWED SPACE The homeowners dreamed of a tranquil, luxurious retreat that embraced natural materials and a captivating color scheme. Our collaborative effort brought this vision to life, creating a bathroom that not only meets the clients’ functional needs but also serves as a daily sanctuary. The carefully chosen materials and lighting design enable the space to shift its character with the changing light of day. “Trust the process and it will all come together,” the home owners shared. “Sometimes we just stand here and think, ‘Wow, this is lovely!'”

Salle de bain sur mesure réalisée par Globaleo Bois, entreprise de menuiserie sur mesure (Paris & IDF). La baignoire dispose d'une paroi en verre découpée sur mesure avec un traitement anti-calcaire efficace et durable. Le meuble de salle de bain se dote d'un plan en corian incluant une vasque moulée d'une grande facilité d'entretien. Deux tiroirs offrent de l'espace de rangement. Le miroir sur mesure est chauffant afin d'éviter la formation de buée.

We designed this bathroom with a modern retreat in mind. We moved the original plumbing to accommodate this elegant tub. We put the tub on an angel to make a statement upon entry. The theme was black and white, which is classic, modern, and tailored all at the same time. We mixed both Matte black and brass finishes. You will find a mixture of both finishes on the contemporary chandelier and sconces, which ties it all together. We used a tile floor-to-ceiling waterfall in a beautiful large-scaled pattern to create interest and balance the brick-patterned white subway tile. We used a beautiful deep blue double vanity for a pop of color. We also specified a custom bench to add ample storage within this spacious master bathroom.
