Kaiser Gardens
This is a California xeriscape succulent garden. Clients wanted color and texture with drought-resistant plant materials. They enjoy garden sculptures, so we included a Buddha and a Roman bust planted with succulents. The previous owners of the property left behind some old San Francisco cobblestones, which we incorporated into the new design, using them as garden steps.
We built low, raised beds out of stone, also existing on the property, and used containers along steps and against existing concrete walls to soften the hard surfaces.

This front yard is a mixture of California native plants, California friendly plants, permeable decomposed granite paving with brick inlay and other sustainable touches. There is also 3 different seating areas, a bird bath, fountain and boulders for texture. You can read about this projects demo, install and watch an updated video here http://tinyurl.com/7f26wqk

Drought tolerant and deer resistant plants are featured in this front yard makeover. Herbs, including lavender, catmint, sage, oregano and thyme and ornamental grasses add color and texture to this Mediterranean style home sitting on a large bedrock outcropping. Low maintenance ground covers replace lawn.

photo...Caitlin Atkinson...Where once there was lawn, now there is a new pathway from the guest parking area to the front door. All plantings are new except for the Queen palms. Once the lawn was removed, we were able to bring in mounds of new soil punctuated by gravel pathways leading to benches for visiting and viewing. .

The traditional fountain and surroundings are embellished with a variety of drought tolerant grasses, flowering plants and succulents. The removal of the dense and overgrown shrubs provides more outdoor living space for dining and entertaining for the homeowners' enjoyment. And now with site-appropriate plants and no lawn there is less maintenance and a lower water bill. Full color Blue stone and small mexican pebbles replace the lawn and pathways resulting in an updated and contemporary transformation. A variety of low-water plants including succulents offer year-round appeal and interest throughout the seasons to include Sedum rupestre 'Angelina', with chartreuse foliage, other varieties of sedum along with Echeveria succulents, Echinacea and grases.
