The definitive idea behind this project was to create a modest country house that was traditional in outward appearance yet minimalist from within. The harmonious scale, thick wall massing and the attention to architectural detail are reminiscent of the enduring quality and beauty of European homes built long ago. It features a custom-built Spanish Colonial- inspired house that is characterized by an L-plan, low-pitched mission clay tile roofs, exposed wood rafter tails, broad expanses of thick white-washed stucco walls with recessed-in French patio doors and casement windows; and surrounded by native California oaks, boxwood hedges, French lavender, Mexican bush sage, and rosemary that are often found in Mediterranean landscapes. An emphasis was placed on visually experiencing the weight of the exposed ceiling timbers and the thick wall massing between the light, airy spaces. A simple and elegant material palette, which consists of white plastered walls, timber beams, wide plank white oak floors, and pale travertine used for wash basins and bath tile flooring, was chosen to articulate the fine balance between clean, simple lines and Old World touches.

En esta preciosa y silenciosa casa rural llamada “Casa Les Germanes”, situada en un pequeño pueblo de Lérida, llamado Gramuntell, realizamos cambios en la decoración usando muchos de los productos de nuestra web. Se intervino en salón, comedor, cocina, habitación suite y una zona de exterior. Las activas y simpáticas propietarias querían conseguir dar un toque más primaveral a algunas de sus estancias, y saber las técnicas para conseguirlo. Ania Omski-Talwar Location: Danville, CA, USA The house was built in 1963 and is reinforced cinder block construction, unusual for California, which makes any renovation work trickier. The kitchen we replaced featured all maple cabinets and floors and pale pink countertops. With the remodel we didn’t change the layout, or any window/door openings. The cabinets may read as white, but they are actually cream with an antique glaze on a flat panel door. All countertops and backsplash are granite. The original copper hood was replaced by a custom one in zinc. Dark brick veneer fireplace is now covered in white limestone. The homeowners do a lot of entertaining, so even though the overall layout didn’t change, I knew just what needed to be done to improve function. The wood flooring wraps up the walls and ceiling in the kitchen creating a "wood womb": A complimentary contrast to the the pink and sea-foam painted custom cabinets, brass hardware, brass backsplash and brass island. Windows were intentionally placed on both ends of the kitchen to create a cozy space.
