As you ascend in the elevator to the Tree Top Floor and enter the Enclave, you know you have arrived, not at a residence, but an experience. A place that is as Bright and White as the Sun Shining outside the Bank of Windows, yet Tempered by the Green Lush Expanse of all Central Park Laid before your Wandering eyes. As you turn to Drink in the Apartment, your Eyes are delighted with the Twinkle of Crystal, the Sheen of Marbles, The Roughness of Carved Granite, all played against Cozy Silk and Wool Carpets, Sofas and Chairs that soak you in, the Art and Treasures in glints of Patina-ed Golds and Silver from the Past, The Present and the Future to come, all gift boxed in a setting that harks back to the Golden Age of Pre-War New York but Splashed with Modern Flourishes in design that remind you, you are Here and Now. The clients imagined a rock house with cut stone accents and a steep roof with French and English influences; an asymmetrical house that spread out to fit their broad building site. We designed the house with a shallow, but rambling footprint to allow lots of natural light into the rooms. The interior is anchored by the dramatic but cozy family room that features a cathedral ceiling and timber trusses. A breakfast nook with a banquette is built-in along one wall and is lined with windows on two sides overlooking the flower garden.

This living room is a warm space for family gathering and entertainment. The custom deep-set sofas are upholstered in luxurious velvets. The expansive entertainment center allows for storage and shelving for displays. The French-inspired custom drapery and swag brings additional texture and elegance. Antiqued gold accents in the coffee table and decor present a touch of glamour to the space.

Sunspace Design has completed hundreds of stunning glass construction projects for clients with homes of all sizes throughout over forty years of continuous operation in New England. The project depicted here was completed for clients with a stunning 5000 square foot oceanfront residence located in York, ME. We were thrilled to be brought in on a project so close to our office headquarters! The fully custom ridge skylight project was a collaboration between Sunspace Design, CM Ragusa Builders of Seabrook, New Hampshire—who served as general contractor—and the Fiorentino Group’s architectural team out of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Sunspace was brought in to offer specialty glass design-build services which included the full development and installation of the skylight. Positioned centrally in the ridged ceiling of the home’s great room, the skylight opening measures 7.5 feet by 20 feet. This generous size floods the space below with natural sunlight while providing clear views of the sky. We built and assembled the custom mahogany frame in our New Hampshire fabrication shop. After assembly, the frame was delivered directly to the site, where a crane operator and the Sunspace crew quickly affixed it to the building frame. As always, we used the very best insulated glass to ensure top thermal performance across all four seasons of northeastern weather. Copper cladding and flashing were used on the exterior (integrating with the slate roofing). The mahogany frame’s deep, rich color was matched by the building designer to complete a stunning look adjacent to the interior wood finishes. Angular and dramatic, the ridge skylight is the centerpiece of the client’s home, transforming an already beautiful space into something magical.

A beautiful formal living room graced by swoop back side chairs in front of the modern fireplace, an abstract piece of custom art that brings the color scheme together, and a black baby grand piano to ground the space is all one needs to sit in comfort and relax.
