Popular from about 1890 through 1940, Tudor is characterized by steeply pitched roofs, massive chimneys, tall narrow casement windows and decorative half-timbering. Shingle’s hallmarks include shingled walls, an asymmetrical façade, intersecting cross gables and extensive porches. A masterpiece of wood and stone, there is nothing ordinary about Rookwood, which combines the best of both worlds. Once inside the foyer, the 3,500-square foot main level opens with a 27-foot central living room with natural fireplace. Nearby is a large kitchen featuring an extended island, hearth room and butler’s pantry with an adjacent formal dining space near the front of the house. The living and dining area is flooded with light and good cheer. Maya didn't want to obstruct any views of the river so he was very conscious of that in the design. A neutral palette is soothing to the eye while a jolt of warm persimmon on the midcentury chairs and a sculpture from R.E. Steele in East Hampton provide focal points. Sisal carpet from Merida creates a graphic counterpoint to the linen upholstery on the Maya-designed sofa and armchairs. Carefully placed sculpture and artwork, along with splashes of vibrant color, provide focus and a cheerful quality to the overall aesthetic. Photographer: Christian Harder

Une assise complémentaire rouge orangée donne du dynamisme à la réalisation, Une bibliothèque en métal de chez Maison du Monde, un tapis en peau avec des formes géométriques habille le sol, une table console permet de conserver l'espace de circulation et s'ouvre pour loger 10 convives si besoin. Le parquet ancien est d'origine et à été restauré. Des coussins, des vases et miroir viennent accessoiriser le tout. Un lampadaire signé par P.Starck achetée chez Artémide donne du cachet à l'ensemble.

This Rivers Spencer living room was designed with the idea of livable luxury in mind. Using soft tones of blues, taupes, and whites the space is serene and comfortable for the home owner. The Susan Harter mural envelopes the room while the hints of modern in the lucite and light fixtures balance the traditional space. The antique wood pieces add warmth to the room.
