Our clients and their three teenage kids had outgrown the footprint of their existing home and felt they needed some space to spread out. They came in with a couple of sets of drawings from different architects that were not quite what they were looking for, so we set out to really listen and try to provide a design that would meet their objectives given what the space could offer. We started by agreeing that a bump out was the best way to go and then decided on the size and the floor plan locations of the mudroom, powder room and butler pantry which were all part of the project. We also planned for an eat-in banquette that is neatly tucked into the corner and surrounded by windows providing a lovely spot for daily meals. The kitchen itself is L-shaped with the refrigerator and range along one wall, and the new sink along the exterior wall with a large window overlooking the backyard. A large island, with seating for five, houses a prep sink and microwave. A new opening space between the kitchen and dining room includes a butler pantry/bar in one section and a large kitchen pantry in the other. Through the door to the left of the main sink is access to the new mudroom and powder room and existing attached garage. White inset cabinets, quartzite countertops, subway tile and nickel accents provide a traditional feel. The gray island is a needed contrast to the dark wood flooring. Last but not least, professional appliances provide the tools of the trade needed to make this one hardworking kitchen.

This spec home investor came to DSA with a unique challenge: to create a residence that could be sold for 8-10 million dollars on a 2-3 million dollar construction budget. The investor gave the design team complete creative control on the project, giving way to an opportunity for the team to pursue anything and everything as long as it fit in the construction budget. Out of this challenge was born a stunning modern/contemporary home that carries an atmosphere that is both luxurious and comfortable. The residence features a first floor owners’ suite, study, glass lined wine cellar, entertainment retreat, spacious great room, pool deck & lanai, bonus room, terrace, and five upstairs bedrooms. The lot chosen for the home sits on the beautiful St. Petersburg waterfront, and Designers made sure to take advantage of this at every angle of the home, creating sweeping views that flow between the exterior and interior spaces. The home boasts wide open spaces created by long-span trusses, and floor to ceiling glass and windows that promote natural light throughout the home. The living spaces in the home flow together as part of one contiguous interior space, reflecting a more casual and relaxed way of life.

BUILD recently completed this five bedroom, six bath, four-car garage, two-story home designed by Stofft Cooney Architects. The floor to ceiling windows provide a wealth of natural light in to the home. Amazing details in the bathrooms, exceptional wall details, cozy little courtyard, and an open bar top in the kitchen provide a unique experience in this modern style home.

Lighting is one key way that European flavor is maintained in each room. From crystal pendants over the kitchen islands, the dramatic fixtures compliment the natural light furthering an airy and open space. While the entire home maintains a Hollywood chicness through rich textures and fabrics, it was also important that it remained family-friendly. We added in a breakfast nook with a built-in bench against the bay windows in this transitional kitchen.

The kitchen remodel includes a cool white backsplash in the kitchen. This detail beautifully compliments the cool tones throughout the rest of the kitchen's tiles and kitchen cabinets. The highlight and most significant feature of this kitchen remodel has not one, but two kitchen islands. This allows for more working space, and more room to makes hosting more enjoyable. The brass detailing on the cabinets and kitchen sink is rich and warm, giving the perfect detail to this regal kitchen. We love a kitchen that can accommodate a wine fridge and mini-fridge for the family who loves to entertain and enjoys hosting.
