This lovely little modern farmhouse is located at the base of the foothills in one of Boulder’s most prized neighborhoods. Tucked onto a challenging narrow lot, this inviting and sustainably designed 2400 sf., 4 bedroom home lives much larger than its compact form. The open floor plan and vaulted ceilings of the Great room, kitchen and dining room lead to a beautiful covered back patio and lush, private back yard. These rooms are flooded with natural light and blend a warm Colorado material palette and heavy timber accents with a modern sensibility. In this beautifully crafted home, the living spaces blend contemporary aesthetics with comfort, creating an environment of relaxed luxury. As you step into the living room, the eye is immediately drawn to the panoramic view framed by the floor-to-ceiling glass doors, which seamlessly integrate the outdoors with the indoors. Inheriting a white kitchen with glazed cabinets was not what this new homeowner expected. She is more of a shabby-chic farmhouse type. While they loved the hearth and tile work, it would be quite an expense to replace this many cabinets. The solution, reface them in a Driftwood and Portobella stain that both offer the rustic look the homeowner was going for. Maintain the new warm palette by replacing the countertops in Cambria Warm for a subtle, yet elegant kitchen design.

The kitchen was renovated to create a brighter and more functional space for entertaining. An earth-based, neutral color palette in combination with a wall of windows overlooking the backyard creates a serene feeling. The focal point of the kitchen is an expansive center island topped with an unusually large, single slab of Victoria Falls quartzite that features a continuous wave of grain throughout the stone. Off of the kitchen, the three season room was converted to an insulated, four season breakfast room. Tall windows with transoms above and paneling below accentuate the feeling of being in a sunroom.

The first and most obvious change in the beautifully finished kitchen is the stunning new island. Removing the L-shaped bar around the perimeter of the kitchen along with the very small original island allowed ample space for this luxe showstopper. The new island provides plenty of workspace on it’s sleek, 4 ft x 9 ft Titanium Granite countertop, which also doubles as a seating area. Our clients are now able to host guests while preparing their meals without feeling removed from the conversation. This monster-sized beauty also houses additional hidden storage cabinets with adjustable shelving just behind the barstools and convenient storage drawers on the other side.
