The island is stained walnut. The cabinets are glazed paint. The gray-green hutch has copper mesh over the doors and is designed to appear as a separate free standing piece. Small appliances are behind the cabinets at countertop level next to the range. The hood is copper with an aged finish. The wall of windows keeps the room light and airy, despite the dreary Pacific Northwest winters! The fireplace wall was floor to ceiling brick with a big wood stove. The new fireplace surround is honed marble. The hutch to the left is built into the wall and holds all of their electronics. Project by Portland interior design studio Jenni Leasia Interior Design. This kitchen was designed with family in mind. With prep, clean-up, cooking, and baking zones, this functional layout allows for multiple family members to pitch in without getting under foot. Built in 1997, and featuring a lot of warmth and slate stone throughout - the design scope for this renovation was to bring in a more transitional style that would help calm down some of the existing elements, modernize and ultimately capture the serenity of living at the lake.

It's the details that make the difference; in this case, the kitchen seems a little more sophisticated and contemporary just by using a different profile edge for the countertops. We also see the durable wood look porcelain tile floors in this shot.

Like the integration of the flat roof element into the main gabled form next to garage. It negotiates the line between traditional and modernist forms and details successfully.” This single-family vacation home on the Michigan shoreline accomplished the balance of large, glass window walls with the quaint beach aesthetic found on the neighboring dunes. Drawing from the vernacular language of nearby beach porches, a composition of flat and gable roofs was designed. This blending of rooflines gave the ability to maintain the scale of a beach cottage without compromising the fullness of the lake views. The result was a space that continuously displays views of Lake Michigan as you move throughout the home. From the front door to the upper bedroom suites, the home reminds you why you came to the water’s edge, and emphasizes the vastness of the lake view. Marvin Windows helped frame the dramatic lake scene. The products met the performance needs of the challenging lake wind and sun. Marvin also fit within the budget, and the technical support made it easy to design everything from large fixed windows to motorized awnings in hard-to-reach locations. This transitional kitchen designed by Normandy Designer Stephanie Bryant has some of the clean lines of contemporary styles, and is blended with accents of traditional styles, such as mouldings and corbels. The chunky countertop on the island offsets some of the finer details and helps land this kitchen in the transitional style.
