For this kitchen, designed by Peter Bittner, the client had a very clear idea of what she wanted right from the start. She did her research. The mother of a fast growing, young family, she wanted something as efficient as it was beautiful – on the simple, yet elegant side. Her requests were straightforward: white and light grey Bilotta cabinetry in a transitional style so as not to compete with the detailing inside her 1950s Tudor-style home; a heated tile floor (By Rye Ridge Tile); stainless appliances; white subway tile backsplash by Walker Zanger (again to keep it clean and not compete with its surroundings); and seating at the island for snacks and homework. The “pop” suggested by Peter was done through the satin brass hardware and lighting fixtures. The real challenge with this space was to fit as much as possible into the existing footprint which was overall on the smaller side. The solution was eliminating a doorway (with a swinging door that opened into the kitchen) and stairs from the kitchen to the basement. By moving the stairs and doorway, the usable space increased considerably. The typical working triangle became the focus for one side of the kitchen and the island overhang and seating became available on the other side. To make up for the limited amount of wall cabinets Peter designed shallow pantry-style cabinets along the back wall. Quartz Countertops by Rom Stone Fabrication. Contemporary kitchen remodel featuring three cabinet finishes, porcelain counters & backsplash, under cabinet lighting, and integrated refrigerator and dishwasher drawers.

We were asked to help transform a cluttered, half-finished common area to an organized, multi-functional homework/play/lounge space for this family of six. They were so pleased with the desk setup for the kids, that we created a similar workspace for their office. In the midst of designing these living areas, they had a leak in their kitchen, so we jumped at the opportunity to give them a brand new one. This project was a true collaboration between owner and designer, as it was done completely remotely.

This kitchen renovation was part of a whole house project that involved the entire first floor, including the mud room, and an upstairs and downstairs bathroom. Our primary aim was to make the kitchen the main focal point of the house, and take advantage of the natural light in the back. To do this we removed the partition wall, and all the elements of the back mud room. Existing exterior doors were replaced and this significantly helped bring in the natural light and make the entrance 1st floor more inviting. Our clients opted for Shaker White cabinetry with accented black finishes and an industrial glass styled backsplash. We improved the comfort of the space with spray foam insulation that included space heating in the mudroom and heated floors in the kitchen. The sink was also moved to the peninsula to free up countertop space and allow for a better work triangular arrangement. Our favourite is the new RED FRONT DOOR! We love it…

The jewel of this luxury kitchen renovation is the Tiffany blue gas range and matching bell hood by Officine Gullo. While the nautically inspired chrome fixtures and full-height white cabinets with satin brass hardware by Lisa Jarvis brighten the space, the crown molding and inset details lend a hand to the classic interiors aesthetic.

This Poggenpohl kitchen certainly shows off the possibilities within a relatively small area. A galley kitchen just off the main living area with lots of storage and practical work surface. Handleless units provide clean lines and sense of space. Matt sand grey is used on one side of the kitchen with contrasting dark wood on the opposite tall housings. The use of the Bora Classic cooktop with integrated extraction allows for added essential storage above. Buster and Punch pendant lights are an added feature at one end of the kitchen also visible from the living area. This kitchen is a stunning example of function and design at its best.
