Entertaining and bringing people together is what this family is all about. Birthdays involve amazing cakes like you see on those TV shows, and groups of 30 people or more. Their ideal kitchen needed to accommodate that level of baking and hosting, but also support the daily rhythms of life. Our collaborative design was guided by Vastu Shastra, an ancient architectural tradition that predates feng shui. Based on Vedic traditions that harmonize human behavior with natural forces in the world, Vastu Shanstra basically suggests how to inhabit a place in the best way possible. The objectives were: -Relocate the entire kitchen so the home’s heat source (oven) is in the southeast -Incorporate symmetry into the overall design -Create a large space for entertaining – open and airy with lots of light -Simultaneously separate but join cooking and gathering spaces, allowing the cook to have a cook-specific zone that is still a part of any gathering -Individual storage for small appliances – making them easier to use -Simplicity – the space should be easy to use and maintain Design challenges we solved for: -Incorporate three load bearing points of the house -Provide structural support that was not obvious -Reconfigure kitchen utilities to another part of the home -Maximize storage space Design solutions and mindful innovations became an exciting motivation that drove the project: -Double-horseshoe design features two symmetrical islands that seat 18 people comfortably -Downdraft ventilation behind rangetop allows unobstructed views -Overhead beams for structural support -Equip nearby dining room with locking bar and wine cabinet -Roll-out appliance shelves on back of cooking island are powered for easy use -Symmetrical fridge and freezer columns separated by oven -Cabinets along back of the cooking area for everyday items -Tall pantry cabinet has four drawers for paperwork -Spacious walk-in storage pantry has a counter with power outlets -Coffee station has a trash can directly below for easy clean up -Two sinks and dishwashers for easy cleanup “A lot of relationships are built over food,” the homeowner told us. “This [kitchen] keeps our family close because we all love food. My kids sit in the kitchen all evening long every day – and I’m right there cooking. That’s life –to be together.” We also collaborated with the homeowners to remodel their primary bathroom, primary bedroom closet and an additional bathroom.

An elegant kitchen design featuring classic, shaker style doors in Dulux 'Grey Cabin' and benchtops in Caesarstone 'Turbine Grey'. The black Lancanche stove is the centrepiece of the kitchen and is complimented nicely by the black Gessi lever tap and Franke sink. A functional scullery/walk-in-pantry with 2nd sink, can be hidden away behind the sliding door when not in use. Birchwood Construction had the pleasure of working with Jonathan Lee Architects to revitalize this beautiful waterfront cottage. Located in the historic Belvedere Club community, the home's exterior design pays homage to its original 1800s grand Southern style. To honor the iconic look of this era, Birchwood craftsmen cut and shaped custom rafter tails and an elegant, custom-made, screen door. The home is framed by a wraparound front porch providing incomparable Lake Charlevoix views. The interior is embellished with unique flat matte-finished countertops in the kitchen. The raw look complements and contrasts with the high gloss grey tile backsplash. Custom wood paneling captures the cottage feel throughout the rest of the home. This Chef's kitchen in Seal Beach, CA was inspired by the homeowner's love for cooking. The "Harvard" model home was originally designed with an enclosed kitchen and laundry area, separate from the living room. Morey Remodeling opened up the space by removing a half wall and integrating the laundry closet in the kitchen. Complete with innovative cabinet storage solutions, gray Quartz countertops, pot filler with stainless steel and ceramic subway tile backsplash. This beautiful kitchen is now ready to cook a delicious meal

Part of an addition to an existing home this kitchen, while not extra large, packs a lot of storage into a relatively small space. Home to a young family there is seating for 3. The island bench has large drawers with a bookshelf on the end for cook books. The pale grey on the island is complemented by the white cabinets elsewhere. Beautiful blue glass splashback adds an inviting splash of colour to an otherwise neutral palette. Polished timber floors throughout the room. The large wall unit on the opposite wall adds more storage to this family room. The deep blue backing complements the blue of the kitchen and makes the white shelves pop. Timber benchtop.
