A complete house renovation for an Interior Stylist and her family. Dreamy. The essence of these pieces of bespoke furniture: natural beauty, comfort, family, and love. Custom cabinetry was designed and made for the Kitchen, Utility, Boot, Office and Family room.

When this family approached Gayler Design Build, they had a unique, octagon-shaped room that lacked flow and modern amenities. The home initially was constructed from three small houses that were "joined" together to create this unusual shape. It was important for the family to keep the open floor plan but add more functional space, to include new cabinetry and a large center island. In order to build the open floor plan, Gayler Design Build had to design around a central post and refinish the octagon concrete flooring, which was cut to reconfigure items in space and access sewer lines, etc.

This large kitchen in a converted schoolhouse needed an unusual approach. The owners wanted an eclectic look – using a diverse range of styles, shapes, sizes, colours and finishes. The final result speaks for itself – an amazing, quirky and edgy design. From the black sink unit with its ornate mouldings to the oak and beech butcher’s block, from the blue and cream solid wood cupboards with a mix of granite and wooden worktops to the more subtle free-standing furniture in the utility. • A busy family wanted to rejuvenate their entire first floor. As their family was growing, their spaces were getting more cramped and finding comfortable, usable space was no easy task. The goal of their remodel was to create a warm and inviting kitchen and family room, great room-like space that worked with the rest of the home’s floor plan. The focal point of the new kitchen is a large center island around which the family can gather to prepare meals. Exotic granite countertops and furniture quality light-colored cabinets provide a warm, inviting feel. Commercial-grade stainless steel appliances make this gourmet kitchen a great place to prepare large meals. A wide plank hardwood floor continues from the kitchen to the family room and beyond, tying the spaces together. The focal point of the family room is a beautiful stone fireplace hearth surrounded by built-in bookcases. Stunning craftsmanship created this beautiful wall of cabinetry which houses the home’s entertainment system. French doors lead out to the home’s deck and also let a lot of natural light into the space. From its beautiful, functional kitchen to its elegant, comfortable family room, this renovation achieved the homeowners’ goals. Now the entire family has a great space to gather and spend quality time.

White cabinetry is always classic and this beautiful remodel completed in Durham is no exception. The hardwood floors run throughout the downstairs, tying the formal dining room, breakfast room, and living room all together. The soft cream walls offset the Blue Pearl granite countertops and white cabinets, making the space both inviting and elegant. Double islands allow guests to enjoy a nice glass of wine and a seat right in the kitchen while allowing the homeowners their own prep-island at the same time. We removed a wall that separated the Kitchen and living room to open up the space. Created a Large Island that is topped with Granite with a Smokehouse stain cabinet, the surround is Grey Quartz with Cream Cabinets.

The soft cream colour used on most of the cabinetry ties in with the weathered oak and dark grey used on the island to create a traditional but classic colour scheme. The windows in the kitchen were designed to echo the conservatory extension which was added to the property when our clients moved there. The desire to bring together the conservatory and kitchen area was reflected in the design of the room; encouraging a natural flow from the kitchen to the informal dining table and on to the relaxed living space.

The Gaggenau induction hob on the island is close to the dining area to make serving easy and so that the cook can join in the conversation. Natural light floods the room from the roof lantern while the sash windows afford good views of the pretty, French-style, walled garden.
