This unique property had a spectacular location but a dated interior with disjointed walls and crevices. Some significant steps were needed to transform the space into a clean and modern kitchen, Without a central focal point, a wall was moved to center the range, making the space a true symmetrical rectangle. The goal was to create a space that was clean and modern to compliment the breathtaking views using warm organic accents to avoid feeling sterile. The open, floating shelves with integrated LED lighting were matched to the white bleached oak used in the ceiling and floor. To allow room for the expansive windows, outlets were cut into the counters and elevate by touch. The inset shaker cabinetry is classic and simple with bronze hardware and serves as the perfect setting for the continuous, marble single slabs used for the backsplash, counters, and hood. Paneling the appliances gave the room a serene feel, with the Galley workstation and BlueStar range making it a true cook’s kitchen. The team added a soffit around the recessed ceiling with wood detailing to draw one’s attention to the custom hood. Designed by Kathy Drake Interiors, it is made from the same marble used throughout, with artful veining making a dramatic statement.

The design team with Janie Petkus of Janie Petkus Interiors, Cyrus Rivetna of Rivetna Architects, and Gail Drury of Drury Design all worked together to design an inviting and luxurious destination for an entire family to gather all year round. Key design features addressed in this remodel included highlighting beautiful views of the Lake, brightening up the space, and modernizing the design to fit the needs of the family that loves to entertain The home is filled with lots of adults and kids regularly and the kitchen needed to function well for multi cooks as well large family gatherings. Therefore multi-work areas and large expanses of countertop space for buffets were a must. These design ideas paired with lots of seating at the island and the oversized table gave enough room for everyone. A multimetal hood with an antique patina was included to add an element of WOW to the space. A large multi-burner stove, two large sinks, two dishwashers, and three waste receptacles were strategically located in multiple locations so multiple family members could use the space simultaneously. An area off to the side in the family room that was designated as a desk area was multi-purposed to function as a buffet area for the large family dinners.

The original house was demolished to make way for a two-story house on the sloping lot, with an accessory dwelling unit below. The upper level of the house, at street level, has three bedrooms, a kitchen and living room. The “great room” opens onto an ocean-view deck through two large pocket doors. The master bedroom can look through the living room to the same view. The owners, acting as their own interior designers, incorporated lots of color with wallpaper accent walls in each bedroom, and brilliant tiles in the bathrooms, kitchen, and at the fireplace. The kitchen in this Nantucket vacation home with an industrial feel is a dramatic departure from the standard white kitchen. The custom, blackened stainless steel hood with brass strappings is the focal point in this space and provides contrast against white shiplap walls along with the double islands in heirloom, black glazed walnut cabinetry, and floating shelves. The island countertops and slab backsplash are Snowdrift Granite and feature brass caps on the feet. The perimeter cabinetry is painted a soft Revere Pewter, with counters in Absolute Black Leathered Granite. The stone sink was custom-made to match the same material and blend seamlessly. Twin SubZero freezer/refrigerator columns flank a wine column, while modern pendant lighting and brass hardware add a touch of glamour. The coffee bar is stocked with everything one would need for a perfect morning, and is one of the owners’ favorite features.
