Ultramodern German Kitchen in Worthing, West Sussex This German kitchen project in Worthing required extensive structural works to divide two rooms and create an open-plan space. Designer Phil has created an ultramodern handleless kitchen space, complete with high-tech appliances and TV area. The Brief A spacious and vast open-plan kitchen was the end goal of this project, which was not an easy task considering the space was originally two rooms. Advanced structural works were required to support the rest of the property, with flooring, lighting and an exterior bi-fold door also part of the plans. Designer Phil was tasked with envisaging a design which incorporated all this client’s requirements, whilst implementing a homely and modern kitchen theme. Design Elements Before fitting the kitchen, our structural team had to undertake significant works. Following the removal of a dividing wall, four steels had to be fixed in a square formation to support the property, this left a huge space for the kitchen Phil had designed for this client. A homely, yet modern theme was preferred with a combination of Stone Grey and Slate grey matt units opted for. These two finishes are complimented by Havana oak wood accents and the handless design of the kitchen. To meet the client’s requirements, an island, TV area and full-height corner storage feature, in addition to a wall-to-wall run which houses kitchen appliances and storage. Special Inclusions Special inclusions are aplenty in this kitchen. A grid of appliances is comprised of a Neff slide & hide oven, combination oven, warming drawer, coffee centre and Caple wine cabinet. Each provide an array of useful functions for this client, and elsewhere are accompanied by a Neff induction hob, Neff telescopic extractor hood and a Quooker 100°C boiling water tap. Designer Phil has incorporated numerous design features like a glass-ended unit on the island, cookbook storage space, feature shelving in the TV area and a raised natural wood work surface on the island. Our structural team were also tasked with widening an exterior doorway and fitting bi-fold doors which look out to the vibrant garden. Project Highlight The TV area is a lovely highlight of this project. Phil has framed this with additional storage and decorative wood effect shelving. Nearby a full-height radiator and full-height storage provide warmth and even more storage to the kitchen space. The End Result The end result is a space that is unrecognisable and has been completely transformed with the expertise of our fitting team. In addition to the structural works, Karndean flooring, lighting and heating improvements have been made involving almost every facet of our installation team. The pull-out feature of the unit allows for easy access to items stored in the back of the cabinet, making it more convenient to use the space and reducing the need to crawl inside the cabinet to reach items. It features adjustable shelves, allowing you to customize the unit to fit your storage needs. This can help you to better organize your kitchen supplies and make them more accessible. A kitchen equally equipped for entertaining and the aspiring chef, with three prosight ovens a warming drawer, large fridge and freezer and dishwasher by AEG. a Bora induction hob with central extraction giving design flexibility and an all-in-one Quooker boiling water tap adding to that uncluttered and clean feel.

This kitchen remodel was designed by Gail from our Manchester showroom. This kitchen remodel features Yorktowne Iconic cabinets with maple wood Roma flat panel door style (Shaker) and White Icing paint finish. This remodel also features a granite countertop with White mist color and a pencil edge. The flooring is a vinyl click lock plant type of flooring by Armstrong in Goncalo color. The kitchen backplash is Crystal shores diamond brick joint with mapei with grout color Iron #107. Other features include Blanco Granite composite farm sink with Cinder color, Moen faucet & soap dispenser with a chrome finish. The hardware is flat black cup pulls for drawers and knobs for all the doors.

What a fun yet challenging project. After numerous space plan options, we've finally decided on removing a wall and switching it out with cabinetry that is functional for a kitchen and the dining area. We've added a peninsula at a 120 degree corner to expand the working surface, add bar seating and still keep the space open and inviting from adjoining spaces. Blueberry oak cabinets with satin brass hardware are balanced out with white quartz countertop and gray uppers. Wide plank vinyl helped keep this space masculine and formal while the stairs add a softer touch that's being complimented by warm tone furniture. To tie in warmth and masculinity, we've opted for custom miter-cut shelves in the corner. Windows give us great light and a corner cabinet can block a lot of it out, so floating shelves seemed most appropriate (no visible hardware). With a lot of material and colors, space still seems cohesive and inviting. Very formal, yet ready to be used for entertaining and day to day living. Hale Production Studios

Contemporary British Kitchen in Billingshurst, West Sussex

A blue and grey theme and peninsula island space achieve this client's ambitions for this extended kitchen area. The Brief This client sought a kitchen design to suit the modern rear extension being built at their property. They favoured a contemporary theme with plenty of modern inclusions to add daily function to their new kitchen space. A breakfast bar or island was a key requirement, as a place to perch and to make the area more sociable. Design Elements A combination of Indigo Blue and Light Grey cabinetry has been utilised to achieve the modern design this client favoured. The furniture is from British brand Trend and is their Matt effect foiled slab option, which has been paired with integrated chrome handles. To best utilise the space within the new extension, designer Alistair has created a L-shape layout with tall units used to house appliances and important storage space. The island area was a key desirable, and Alistair has incorporated this by using a wrap-around peninsula design. This design adds storage and provides a social space to perch while cooking or for more casual use. The island and entire kitchen are fitted with hard-wearing quartz work surfaces from brand Silestone. The chosen finish Snowy Ibiza is a white veined option that teams really well with grey accents used in the room. To match the work surfaces and light theme a quartz composition 1.5 bowl Blanco silgranite sink has also been installed. Special Inclusions As well as a redesign of the kitchen area, this client sought to improve the usability and function of the space with a new array of appliances. A selection of Neff appliances have been specified, which where possible have been integrated to allow the indigo blue and light grey theme to take centre-stage. A Neff single oven, combination oven, refrigerator, freezer, hob, extractor, dishwasher and integrated washing machine have been supplied and installed as part of this project. Our team also installed some of the finishing touches to this project. Karndean flooring has been installed throughout the kitchen and island area, and the honed oyster slate finish combines well with lighter elements of the theme. To heat the new extension our team have also installed a full-height anthracite radiator close to the sink area. Project Highlight This island area is the highlight of this project, its unique shape incorporates useful storage and the perching area this client required. During construction designer Alistair recommended the widening of the doorway to increase spaciousness of the island, which adds a great flow in between the living room and kitchen. The End Result The end result achieves all the elements of this client’s initial brief whilst incorporating great design expertise from kitchen designer Alistair. This project highlights the fantastic results that can be achieved for extension projects. キッチンは美味しい食事を作るためには欠かせないスペース。毎日使う場所だからこそ、機能性だけではなくおしゃれさにもこだわりたいものです。ここでは、使い勝手の良さやおしゃれさにこだわったキッチンのリフォーム事例と、キッチンリフォームのポイントをご紹介します。

キッチンの改善ポイントを考える

まずは、現在使用しているキッチンを見直してみましょう。調理するスペースが狭い、高さが自分の身長に合っていない、収納スペースが少ないなど、キッチンによってさまざまな改善ポイントが見つかるはずです。こうした改善ポイントをもとに、キッチンのリフォームを検討しましょう。

動線や広さ、レイアウトの見直し

キッチンスペースは人の動きに合わせてレイアウトすることが重要です。動線を意識して、広さやレイアウトを見直しましょう。広さの目安として、キッチン空間を2～3歩で行き来できるのが良いといわれています。狭すぎず広すぎず、キッチンの通路幅は0.9～1.2m程度に収めると良いでしょう。また、冷蔵庫とシンク、コンロを結ぶ三角形の動線（ワークトライアングル）が正三角形に近いほど、作業効率が良いとされています。3辺の合計が3.6～6.6mに収まるように配置すると、効率良く動ける程よい広さとなるでしょう。次にキッチンデザインとレイアウトを特徴別に確認してみましょう。1人で料理をするのか複数人で料理をするのかなど、さまざまなシーンで使い勝手の良いレイアウトを検討してみてください。現在では以下5つのレイアウトが一般的です。

Ⅰ型キッチン
Ⅰ型キッチンは最も一般的なレイアウトで、シンク、調理台、コンロ、冷蔵庫が横一線に並んだタイプのキッチンです。最近では、対面カウンターを付けて背面に収納スペースと冷蔵庫を置くなど、Ⅱ型やアイランド型に似たタイプのレイアウトも人気です。
Ⅱ型キッチン
Ⅱ型キッチンはシンク、調理台、コンロ、冷蔵庫を2カ所に分け、平行に配置することで調理スペースを広げるレイアウトです。調理の際の動線が短くなるというメリットがあります。
L型キッチン
L型キッチンは、シンク、調理台、コンロがL字型に配置されたレイアウトです。ワークトライアングルを作りやすく、動線をコンパクトに抑えることができます。
アイランドキッチン
アイランドキッチンは独立型キッチンとも呼ばれ、シンク、調理台などを壁面から独立させて設置するレイアウトです。調理台を囲むように作業ができるため、家族や友人など複数で楽しみながらキッチンを共有できます。ホームパーティーや料理教室をする際にも便利でしょう。
ペニンシュラキッチン
ペニンシュラは英語で「半島」を意味します。キッチンの左右どちらかが壁に接しているレイアウトを指します。調理スペースがオープンになっているため、リビングやダイニングにいる方とコミュニケーションを取りながら調理できるというメリットがあります。

ビルトイン機器の選択

キッチンタイプのレイアウト見直しと同時に、ビルトイン機器も検討されてみてはいかがでしょうか。ビルトイン機器とは、建物や家具、設備などの中に組み込んで利用する機器を指します。システムキッチンには、ビルトインコンロ、レンジフード、オーブンレンジ、食器洗浄乾燥機を組み込むことが可能です。ビルトインであればスタイリッシュにキッチンに溶け込み、インテリアの邪魔にもなりません。新築やリフォームの際に取り入れることをおすすめします。

ビルトインコンロ
ビルトインコンロには、それぞれ火力の異なるバーナーを組み合わせた3つ口タイプが一般的です。天板素材はガラストップが主流となっていますが、他にガラスコート、フッ素コート、ホーロー、アルミ、ステンレスなどがあります。使い勝手やデザイン、価格などを考慮して選択しましょう。
食器洗浄乾燥機
食器洗浄乾燥機 (食洗機) は手洗いよりも少ない水量できれいに食器を洗浄することができるため、新築やキッチンのリフォーム時には食洗機の導入をおすすめします。国内製のビルトイン食洗機の場合は引き出し式になっているタイプが多いのに対し、海外製のビルトイン食洗機は前開き式になっているものが一般的です。国内製・海外製それぞれで、設置業者や設置可能なシステムキッチンが異なる場合があるため注意しましょう。

収納スペースのアイデア

いかにデッドスペースを活かすかがキッチン収納のコツです。％Topicの収納は限られているため、多くの食器や調理器具、調味料などを片付けるための工夫が必要です。ビルトイン機器も限られたスペースできれいに収納する工夫のひとつといえるでしょう。システムキッチンの収納スペース以外のキッチン収納スペースとしては、床下収納が代表的です。床下の他に、壁面収納なども人気です。壁面収納の場合、食器や調理器具だけでなくキッチン家電までも収納し、スタイリッシュで生活感の出ないキッチンを演出することもできるでしょう。
