Headland is a NextHouse, situated to take advantage of the site’s panoramic ocean views while still providing privacy from the neighboring property. The home’s solar orientation provides passive solar heat gains in the winter while the home’s deep overhangs provide shade for the large glass windows in the summer. The mono-pitch roof was strategically designed to slope up towards the ocean to maximize daylight and the views. The exposed post and beam construction allows for clear, open spaces throughout the home, but also embraces a connection with the land to invite the outside in. The aluminum clad windows, fiber cement siding and cedar trim facilitate lower maintenance without compromising the home’s quality or aesthetic. The homeowners wanted to create a space that welcomed guests for frequent family gatherings. Acorn Deck House Company obliged by designing the home with a focus on indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces with a large, open great room and kitchen, expansive decks and a flexible layout to accommodate visitors. There is also a private master suite and roof deck, which showcases the views while maintaining privacy.

Beautiful warm wood dominates this cozy yet expansive kitchen. Iron and mica light fixtures offer soft light through the space. Sage green counter tops and upholstery soften the wood tones and add contrast. A wood burning oven is lined with craftsman style tiles.

By moving the refrigerator across the room, space was made available for 30" double wall ovens (Miele), a coveted item for the homeowner. The original 30" electric stove was replaced with a 36" gas cooktop (Miele). In order to achieve the custom panel look, a Jenn Air counter depth refrigerator was selected from the Jenn Air line. Exhaust hood is from Vent-a-Hood. Beautiful granite countertops, 1"x4" ceramic glazed tile on the back splash and oak plank flooring round out this lovely light filled kitchen. A microwave is tucked under counter.

Custom home on a hillside surrounded by Junipers and sagebrush. This home features gorgeous stone counter tops with two-tone cabinets. Bathrooms are all tiled with modern porcelain and glass tiles featuring niches and in-wall cabinetry for candles and other bathroom accessories. The vaulted great room features an overlooking balcony with wrought iron railing and a large fireplace wrapped in stone quarried nearby.

Previously this kitchen had been too tight for words. Moving out some unusable closets in the entry hall and some load bearing walls between the living room and dining room allowed us to create a workable open living space.

This was a full kitchen renovation for a client who needed an updated design that still flowed with the home, additional storage and lighting. Scroll through the photos to see the before photos of this space.

Our designer likes to bump out the cabinet above an over-the-range microwave to make it easier to reach the contents; it also provides a little visual interest in the crown molding rather than a straight run across.
