Sited on a quiet street in Palo Alto, this new home is a warmer take on the popular modern farmhouse style. Rather than high contrast and white clapboard, earthy stucco and warm stained cedar set the scene of a forever home for an active and growing young family. The heart of the home is the large kitchen and living spaces opening the entire rear of the house to a lush, private backyard. Downstairs is a full basement, designed to be kid-centric with endless spaces for entertaining. This new home was built on an old lot in Dallas, TX in the Preston Hollow neighborhood. The new home is a little over 5,600 sq.ft. and features an expansive great room and a professional chef’s kitchen. This 100% brick exterior home was built with full-foam encapsulation for maximum energy performance. There is an immaculate courtyard enclosed by a 9' brick wall keeping their spool (spa/pool) private. Electric infrared radiant patio heaters and patio fans and of course a fireplace keep the courtyard comfortable no matter what time of year. A custom king and a half bed was built with steps at the end of the bed, making it easy for their dog Roxy, to get up on the bed. There are electrical outlets in the back of the bathroom drawers and a TV mounted on the wall behind the tub for convenience. The bathroom also has a steam shower with a digital thermostatic valve. The kitchen has two of everything, as it should, being a commercial chef's kitchen! The stainless vent hood, flanked by floating wooden shelves, draws your eyes to the center of this immaculate kitchen full of Bluestar Commercial appliances. There is also a wall oven with a warming drawer, a brick pizza oven, and an indoor churrasco grill. There are two refrigerators, one on either end of the expansive kitchen wall, making everything convenient. There are two islands; one with casual dining bar stools, as well as a built-in dining table and another for prepping food. At the top of the stairs is a good size landing for storage and family photos. There are two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, as well as a movie room. What makes this home so special is the Casita! It has its own entrance off the common breezeway to the main house and courtyard. There is a full kitchen, a living area, an ADA compliant full bath, and a comfortable king bedroom. It’s perfect for friends staying the weekend or in-laws staying for a month.

This home was built in 1975. The original owner/builders sold the home to one of their children. Before moving in, the daughter had us remodel the home. When the home was built in 1975, it was chopped up into smaller rooms on the main floor: dining, living, kitchen. We were able to remove the walls due to the roof framing. So now they have a great room concept that fit their lifestyle much more. This home is very welcoming to visitors and kids just home from school. The idea is to enjoy the fabulous view of the Chugach Mountains. We kept the original wood windows, which are so much higher quality than most vinyl windows sold today. We changed out the glass to safety laminated glass with low-e argon filled insulated units. The safety laminated glass made the house so much more quiet. Since we were able to save the wood windows, we put so much less into the landfill. This project is just under 1,000 sf.

A stunning 3-tone kitchen. The island and lower cabinets are stained while the upper cabinets are painted Benjamin Moore White Dove. The table island and bar area are painted Chinese Blue by Farrow & Ball. The colors perfectly complement each other and the brass fixtures are just the right accent. The kitchen boasts many little upgrades but perhaps the coolest is the hidden pantry to the right of the fridge. What looks like cabinet doors are actually the entrance into a small pantry room. The counters are Q Quartz Calcatta Laza and the knobs and pulls are all Top Knobs.

These clients are great friends of mine, so I really wanted to help them make their remodel special. They recently purchased an historic Craftsman style home in the Claremont Village that required a complete remodel. The kitchen was an area that I helped out the most. It is set in a part of the house that doesn’t get a lot of natural light, so I wanted to keep it light and airy. I didn’t want to do an all white kitchen, so we opted for two tone cabinets, which I absolutely love! We had them custom made and stained a neutral medium brown. There was an empty space under the stairs that I turned into a “secret” walk-in pantry, which is completely nondescript when the doors are closed. The counters are Praa Sands from Cambria, the Roman Shade was custom made from fabric found at the LA fabric district and the back splash is an arrangement of glass subway tiles.
