The warmth of quarter sawn oak is one of a kind. It's a great choice when looking for a natural, neutral cabinet. In this project, it was paired with a simple white quartz countertop. And it's golden natural hue was emphasized with gold hardware, and wicker pendants.

One of the homeowners is in the wheelchair and we had to make sure she could get around in the kitchen. the island was specifically designed with her in mind.

Warming up this kitchen and adding some much needed spice was the challenge presented. The basic configuration stayed the same to free up the budget for beautiful nutmeg stained cabinets and a new bench seating area. A unique slab of granite was found for the island. The homeowners’ desire for a contemporary, but welcoming, kitchen guided material and finish choices. Not wanting to part with their beautiful existing South American Amodium floor, the designer located more material to weave almost seamlessly in with the old. Harmonizing with the richness of the floor, light “Driftwood” stained alder perimeter cabinets and painted “Sea Haze” maple cabinets at the island bring a balance of warm and cool tones. Base and tall cabinet pull outs put cooking utensils and pantry items within reach. An asymmetrical wall cabinet layout gives the kitchen a contemporary feel that meets the homeowners’ aesthetics. Additionally, the backsplash acts as a strong focal point with bold veining, which is book-matched not directly across the backsplash, but moving from behind the cooktop across to the island at the work station sink bringing the space together.

Birchwood Construction had the pleasure of working with Jonathan Lee Architects to revitalize this beautiful waterfront cottage. Located in the historic Belvedere Club community, the home's exterior design pays homage to its original 1800s grand Southern style. To honor the iconic look of this era, Birchwood craftsmen cut and shaped custom rafter tails and an elegant, custom-made, screen door. The home is framed by a wraparound front porch providing incomparable Lake Charlevoix views. The interior is embellished with unique flat matte-finished countertops in the kitchen. The raw look complements and contrasts with the high gloss grey tile backsplash. Custom wood paneling captures the cottage feel throughout the rest of the home. Like many homes today with unused dining room/living spaces, this homeowner had a plan to repurpose her unused dining space by creating an open concept large cooks’ kitchen/dining area. The new design included removing a wall between the existing kitchen and dining room to enlarge the kitchen space. A new wall was built with a corner walk-in pantry for additional storage. A large island was designed into the kitchen with room for additional seating, more cabinetry space and a wine refrigerator. To improve the flow in the room, we also created a new entry into the kitchen. To create ample seating, space was designated for a dining room table and an island bar. The dropped ceiling in the kitchen was raised and a new window was added to open up the space and let in more natural light. To accommodate the homeowner’s hutch, additional room was added along the outer wall of the kitchen. For beauty and aesthetics, a new powder-coated steel stair railing was installed to guide people from the entry to the upper floor. The stair case risers were completed with a contrasting white and dark wood finish and matching posts were added to the island bar area. Knotty Alder cabinets and a New World stain complete this Rustic Napa-inspired look. The light color counter tops are Kashmire Cream granite. The contrast between the dark cabinets with beautiful visible grain detail and light countertops gives this kitchen a timeless, rustic feel. The Blanco apron front sink, in white SiliGranite material is surrounded by antique nickel finish faucets and Antique Pewter hardware. The steel posts are powder coated to match the Antique Nickel faucets. Behind the cooktop in 4” x 16” Pumice color Portcelain tile, is a full height-tiled backsplash—a perfect backdrop for floating shelves that match the cabinets. Beautiful!

Drastic kitchen and bathroom transformation pictures coming your way. This remodeling project has a bitter sweet story. This home was built in 1975 and was the childhood home for our client. Many, many holidays, birthdays, graduations, and life milestones were celebrated here with her brothers and sisters. This home was the hub for all life events and milestones. When her parents passed a few years ago, our client decided to purchase the home with plans of renovations and continuing the family traditions and celebrations she always loved. That's where we come in. Our job was to redesign the kitchen and bathroom into a functional space where family and friends could gather during the celebratory times and give it a rustic flare. Challenge accepted! What was on their wish list? •Remove the peninsula area and add an island. ✔️ Got it! •Warm colors, materials to be used to give a rustic farmhouse feel. ✔️ Yes Ma'am! •Open the wall to the family room. ✔️ Absolutely! •Tone down the orange bathroom and turn it into a half bath. ✔️ Our pleasure! As you can see from the before and after pictures, every wish was signed sealed and delivered. A new chapter is happening in this home. Memories of Mom and Dad are still alive and well in every space of this home and now traditions will continue with loving thoughts of the past and excitement of the future. Working for this family was truly an honor.
