The warmth of quarter sawn oak is one of a kind. It's a great choice when looking for a natural, neutral cabinet. In this project, it was paired with a simple white quartz countertop. And it's golden natural hue was emphasized with gold hardware, and wicker pendants.

Warming up this kitchen and adding some much needed spice was the challenge presented. The basic configuration stayed the same to free up the budget for beautiful nutmeg stained cabinets and a new bench seating area. A unique slab of granite was found for the island. The homeowners’ desire for a contemporary, but welcoming, kitchen guided material and finish choices. Not wanting to part with their beautiful existing South American Amodium floor, the designer located more material to weave almost seamlessly in with the old. Harmonizing with the richness of the floor, light “Driftwood” stained alder perimeter cabinets and painted “Sea Haze” maple cabinets at the island bring a balance of warm and cool tones. Base and tall cabinet pull outs put cooking utensils and pantry items within reach. An asymmetrical wall cabinet layout gives the kitchen a contemporary feel that meets the homeowners’ aesthetics. Additionally, the backsplash acts as a strong focal point with bold veining, which is book-matched not directly across the backsplash, but moving from behind the cooktop across to the island at the work station sink bringing the space together.

Birchwood Construction had the pleasure of working with Jonathan Lee Architects to revitalize this beautiful waterfront cottage. Located in the historic Belvedere Club community, the home's exterior design pays homage to its original 1800s grand Southern style. To honor the iconic look of this era, Birchwood craftsmen cut and shaped custom rafter tails and an elegant, custom-made, screen door. The home is framed by a wraparound front porch providing incomparable Lake Charlevoix views. The interior is embellished with unique flat matte-finished countertops in the kitchen. The raw look complements and contrasts with the high gloss grey tile backsplash. Custom wood paneling captures the cottage feel throughout the rest of the home. Drastic kitchen and bathroom transformation pictures coming your way. This remodeling project has a bitter sweet story. This home was built in 1975 and was the childhood home for our client. Many, many holidays, birthdays, graduations, and life milestones were celebrated here with her brothers and sisters. This home was the hub for all life events and milestones. When her parents passed a few years ago, our client decided to purchase the home with plans of renovations and continuing the family traditions and celebrations she always loved. That's where we come in. Our job was to redesign the kitchen and bathroom into a functional space where family and friends could gather during the celebratory times and give it a rustic flare. Challenge accepted! What was on their wish list? •Remove the peninsula area and add an island. ✔️ Got it! •Warm colors, materials to be used to give a rustic farmhouse feel. ✔️ Yes Ma'am! •Open the wall to the family room. ✔️ Absolutely! •Tone down the orange bathroom and turn it into a half bath. ✔️ Our pleasure! As you can see from the before and after pictures, every wish was signed sealed and delivered. A new chapter is happening in this home. Memories of Mom and Dad are still alive and well in every space of this home and now traditions will continue with loving thoughts of the past and excitement of the future. Working for this family was truly an honor.

The client's did the work themselves on this on and I do say did a fabulous job. We helped them make the design choices, did the quotes, and purchasing to save them money by using our trade accounts, but they chose to general the project and get help where needed. They used our awesome tiler Jacob and were very happy to have spent the money on that portion. The cabinets were not in budget to paint so we made choices that went well with the existing stain, but also modernized and brightened the space. Overall, the kitchen and powder bath look brand new and the client's didn't overspend to do so!
