An existing 70’s brick home nestled streets away from the beach, is in dire need of a transformation. The existing home had the bones to accommodate a substantial renovation, some modifications to the layout, adding an extension and exaggerating the existing raked ceilings in the main living area impacts the new home. The home itself is a relatively disjointed 70’s home, so cleaver planning was imperative to make the most of the interior space. Large open plan living areas with adjoining outdoor entertaining was important. The owners are a young family who enjoy family and entertaining so interaction with the outdoor alfresco was essential not only for quality of living but to appear as a continuation of the main living area to increase the zone visually. My client’s fresh approach; introduction of modern materials with a hint of Scandinavian and industrial, an improved working area and a functional space for cooking and preparing meals.

The tall 10’ high wall of storage in carbon gray super matte lacquer (BONDI line) provides a strong contrast to the white glossy lower units, ample household, and pantry storage, as well as hosting the fridge and oven appliances. Unique patterned corner open shelved unit on the left profile for presentation space and add lightne3ss tot he massive floor-to-ceiling volume.

The Kitchen is the highlight of the large living space. It allows a variety of cooking, entertainment, dining, and leisure wit an indoor-outdoor orientation in one space. The long counter below large windows, large drawers finished with glossy white laminate doors (SIRIUS line in Frosty White) and a color matching ‘handle-less’ c-channel provides clean lines and good ergonomics. The large pullout drawers can carry up to 155 pounds, has internal drawers, and have internal LED lighting and a set of wood inserts accessories by LEICHT. The open pantry provides additional storage with uppers unit with dramatic smokey tinted glass uppers with internal LED lights, for a bar and glass storage. This project was born out of the owner’s passion for cooking. A personal chef to a local family, the kitchen was going to not only be her office, but a training space for students learning her trade. The most important change was to remove a wall and expand the work space by 2 feet. Adding a prep sink, counter seating and a custom pantry were critical appointments. The materials selected are modern, clean and fresh. The expansive island combines a warm grey painted cabinet and is topped by waterfall white veined quartz countertops. The matte black plumbing fixtures and hardware create drama and contrast against the white countertops and modern shaker cabinetry. The oversized black dome pendants lend a restaurant vibe to the peninsula seating. The stacked stone backsplash lends texture and dimension, and it’s lines are echoed in the fireplace façade. Being averse to countertop outlets, a power strip was tucked underneath the wall cabinetry to keep the backsplash unobstructed. A picket shaped tile was featured as an accent over the client’s BlueStar range. The client’s original ventilation hood was also repurposed. A hospitality station was included and features a beverage cooler, glass display cabinetry and set apart with corbel brackets. The fireplace was refaced with new natural stacked stone in warm greys and touches of spice and features a dark stain wood mantel beam. The recessed niche was fitted with matching lighted floating shelves for display.
