Custom blue/gray island with mitred quartz counter meets fresh white perimeter cabinets with jet mist granite and counter to ceiling tile to create illusion of height.

A dark, tired, old kitchen transformed into a bright, practical and inviting space. This client showed me a picture of a blue kitchen at the start of our journey, that was the blue she loved and wanted and we based everything around that very blue. We completely changed the layout of this kitchen. Adding a peninsular/bar where people can sit at while the other person is cooking and ideal for quick breakfast. The bar joins the two areas together: on one side the fire place with a sofa in front, on the other side the kitchen and enormous larder unit. We cut up an old beam from a barn and used it on the fire place, extractor fan, bar and opening towards the dining room. We matched the built in cabinets from the left and designed some matching cupboards on the right. We added 2 skylights to let the light flow in the kitchen. And we added a concrete tile floor with a little blue pattern in.

This vintage kitchen in a historic home was snug and closed off from other rooms in the home, including the family room. Opening the wall created a pass-through to the family room as well as ample countertop space and bar seating for 4. The new undercount sink in the beautiful granite countertop was enlarged to a single 36" bowl. The original Jen-Aire range had seen better days. Removing it opened up additional counter space as well as offered a smooth cook surface with down draft vent. The custom cabinets were solidly built with lots of custom features that new cabinets would not have offered. To lighten and brighten the room, the cabinets were painted with a Sherwin-Williams enamel. Vintage-style hardware was added to fit the period home. The desk was removed since it diminished counter space and the island cabinets were moved into its place. Doing this also opened up the center of the room, allowing better flow. Backsplash tile from Floor & Decor was added. Walls, backsplash, and cabinets were selected in matching colors to make the space appear larger by keeping the eye moving.

Nous avons travaillé pour cette maison de bord de mer avec un promoteur immobilier. Après le rachat de cette simple maison, la volonté était de la remettre au goût du jour. Et cela dans l’optique d’avoir de nouveaux acquéreurs. Il nous fallait alors quelque chose de moderne, d’actuel mais d’assez neutre pour que cela plaise au plus grand nombre. Cette maison ne comprenait que des petites pièces fermées, et donc très peu lumineuses. Pour palier à cela, deux ouvertures importantes sont alors créées : Une petite dans le couloir d’entrée, qui mène à la cuisine. Et une grande entre la salle à manger et le salon pour que les deux pièces soient vraiment liées. L’angle de la cuisine qui forme le couloir, permet de délimiter les espaces : tout est visible, mais en restant différentiable. D’un côté l’espace de vie, avec la cuisine, salon et salle à manger. Et de l’autre l’espace nuit et garage. Avec l’accès de celui ci par un petit espace servant de dressing d’entrée Nous retrouvons une suite parentale dans ce premier espace nuit au rez-de-chaussée. Celle-ci comporte alors une chambre donnant directement accès au jardin. Une salle de douche partagée avec un espace dressing. À l’étage, nous avons organisé 3 grandes chambres, et une plus petite qui peut également servir de bureau. Chaque pièce a ses propres rangements sur mesure. Cela permet d’éviter d’encombrer l’espace avec des armoires et commodes imposantes. Les rangements sur mesures tout hauteur se confondent avec les murs. Une salle de bain, avec douche est aussi présente à cet étage. Comme nous avons pensé à la possibilité qu’une famille achète cette maison, nous avons placé une baignoire. Car beaucoup plus pratique avec les enfants en bas âges, surtout dans une maison de bord de mer.

James Dale Architects were appointed to design and oversee the refurbishment and extension of this large Victorian Terrace in Walthamstow, north east London. At the rear of the property the side extension has allowed for a large open plan kitchen space that opens onto the garden. The modern kitchen is planned around an island workspace, finished with vibrant teal units and white metro tiles.

Cette cuisine a été dessinée, conçue et fabriquée par nos soins. Elle a été spécialement fabriquée en fonction du frigo américain, tous les caissons et rangements ont fait l'objet d'une fabrication spéciale. Pas de standard, ni de semi sur-mesure. Cette cuisine est équipée d'un placard spécial petit déjeuner, de prises de courant intégrées, et d'un plateau coulissant. Des guirlandes led longent les éléments hauts de faibles profondeur avec spots encastrés. Des poignées sont présentes sur les éléments bas et des pousses lâches sont présents sur les éléments hauts. Le joli bleu de cette cuisine rappelle le carrelage tandis que le bois met en avant le côté chaleureux et intemporel.
