A 1961 home with an under-eight-foot living room ceiling needed some freshening. We slanted the ceiling to match the roof pitch, and added a wall of bookshelves in the dining room. We gutted the kitchen and started over—complete with heated porcelain tile floor. A tiny bathroom had previously included a shower, which we replaced with a full-size vanity that features a striking vessel sink. Relighting the living room required new wiring. Our project manager suggested carrying the existing theme of arched door openings into several of the remodeling details.

For this traditional kitchen remodel the clients chose Fieldstone cabinets in the Bainbridge door in Cherry wood with Toffee stain. This gave the kitchen a timeless warm look paired with the great new Fusion Max flooring in Chambord. Fusion Max flooring is a great real wood alternative. The flooring has the look and texture of actual wood while providing all the durability of a vinyl floor. This flooring is also more affordable than real wood. It looks fantastic! We installed a built in butcher block section to the island countertop to make a great prep station for the cook using the new 36” commercial gas range top. A steel beam was placed where the existing home ended and the entire form was stretched an additional 15 feet. This 1966 Northwest contemporary design by noted architect Paul Kirk has been extended and reordered to create a 2400 square foot home with comfortable living/dining/kitchen area, open stair, and third bedroom plus children's bath. The power of the original design continues with walls that wrap over to create a roof. Hanging vintage bulb light fixture in center of room was designed and fabricated by Rob Dzedzy. Kitchen includes all cabinets fit to ceiling, soft close hinges and drawers. Every bit of space is maximized for storage. Kitchen also includes distributed video and music, and an automated Lutron lighting control system, all installed by Media Rooms Inc.
