The Kitchen Island defines space in the home. the kitchen island makes the kitchen more usable by adding extra space for the things they need in the kitchen, more counter space, or a workspace that can be used as a place to prepare food. The cabinet space under the kitchen island can be used to store extra cooking tools and utensils. It's also easy to get to all these things when they are cooking. It becomes the center of the kitchen since the kitchen is where everyone in the house gathers. With this layout, the host can cook food while facing guests or family members instead of the wall. That gives a lot more opportunities to talk to each other.

This 6,000sf luxurious custom new construction 5-bedroom, 4-bath home combines elements of open-concept design with traditional, formal spaces, as well. Tall windows, large openings to the back yard, and clear views from room to room are abundant throughout. The 2-story entry boasts a gently curving stair, and a full view through openings to the glass-clad family room. The back stair is continuous from the basement to the finished 3rd floor / attic recreation room. The interior is finished with the finest materials and detailing, with crown molding, coffered, tray and barrel vault ceilings, chair rail, arched openings, rounded corners, built-in niches and coves, wide halls, and 12' first floor ceilings with 10' second floor ceilings. A small and dysfunctional kitchen was transformed in three luxury zones - cook, social, and relax. The brief was "not a white kitchen" and we delivered - a black kitchen with feature rose gold metallic trims. A wall was removed, a door was closed up, he original kitchen was entirely removed and the floor plan changed dramatically. This luxurious kitchen features dual ovens - in black and rose gold from SMEG - two dishwashers, 3m wide integrated cabinetry with two bi-fold door tea/coffee stations and appliance centres - with stone countertops inside the cupboards. The cook top area has a dramatic rose gold metal splashback with strip lit niche below the integrated rangehood. Another wall is entirely Sierra Leone stone, same as the counter tops.

In the vintage-inspired kitchen, the handmade clay tile backsplash pops while also working to tie together the entire space through the colors. The custom paint match, blue-gray inset cabinets from Grabill Cabinets in their Lacunar door style anchor the kitchen. The beautiful windows overlooking the lake invite in lots of light, but limit the number of upper cabinets in the design. A large walk-in pantry makes up the storage space and keeps the countertops clean for this large family. The warm wood island countertop from Grothouse offers ample space to cozy up for a casual lunch.

The goal was to update this 1990's colonial's dated kitchen to improve traffic flow, increase natural light, and create a more functional and integrated connection to the outdoor pool and deck, where the family regularly entertains. The original kitchen had narrow work corridors and poor cabinet storage. Along the back of the kitchen, on the poolside, a 22’ wide by 4’ deep bump out replaced a small existing bump out. A coffered ceiling with crown molding was created, adding elegance and giving the sensation of higher ceilings. The new bump out, which has 9’ ceilings and a wall of large windows, floods the kitchen with light and backyard views. The new bump out features large, passthrough sliding windows, overlooking the pool deck, offering easy access to a floating counter for serving. Screens roll up inside mullion pockets, so the windows do not need to be kept open while serving. The bump out created space for a massive kitchen island with leathered granite counter, anchoring the room. It’s large enough for the kids to do their homework, while Mom and Dad prepare meals. The result is a bright, stylish, more functional kitchen that is better connected to the outdoors and to the rest of the home.

The existing timber shelf above the existing masonry chimney opening was also kept. A LED light strip was added to its underside to provide additional focus to this original feature. A powerpack rangehood was installed into the existing masonry chimney cavity. A feature tile was used to walls and floor of this area to house the freestanding hob / oven.

White cabinetries combined with grey porcelain walling compliments the sleek furnishings. The minimalist look is more appreciated with the wooden accent with the floorings. It shows the modern yet simple look.
