Southwest meets the Northwest. This client wanted a real rustic southwest style. The perimeter is rustic rough sawn knotty alder and the Island is hand painted rustic pine. The wide plank wood top is the center piece to this kitchen. Lots of colorful Mexican tile give depth to the earth tones. All the cabinets are custom made by KC Fine Cabinetry.

We worked really hard on making a functional kitchen that worked for the client. We went with grand JK cabinetry and deli custom paint for the lowers to add a nice pop of color in the space. We also designed our kitchens to be functional by adding drawers to all the lower cabinets. We also focused on the lighting in the space above and the under cabinet lighting to help set the mood and be functional in the space.

This kitchen shows off a fantastic L-shaped Kitchen Island, with an area for seating and an integrated sink! The Kitchen Island works as a bridge to the dining area and positions the breakfast bar with a view out of the French doors. The Island was designed with the layout of the kitchen in mind, ensuring the space was streamlined and easy to use. This design incorporates all the modern necessities and works well with the arched windows and stained-glass windows, resulting in a contemporary classic kitchen.

The homeowners wanted a warm and cozy kitchen in their new construction row home. I think we achieved that withe use of color and trim. Photographs by : Libbie Martin

We then took space that had been a wet bar in the family room and integrated it into a large storage area that became the butlers/breakfast pantry. The butler’s pantry acts as a mini-kitchen and offers a great space to make coffee and morning fare leaving the kitchen clean and clutter-free.

Contemporary kitchen designed for a full-time electric wheelchair user by Adam Thomas of Design Matters KBB Ltd. The kitchen has a large rise and fall worktop with front-mounted controls, and a wall mounted microwave in a cupboard that can lower to worktop height. The extractor has a remote control for full access and the sink area is designed in a sold surface material to the precise depth required by the client, with a raised edge on all four sides of the worktop to contain hot spills. The kitchen cabinets are rigid-built for strength, and the doors are acrylic, which stands up well to knocks and scrapes from wheelchairs. This close-up shot shows the pullout larder, which gives excellent access to stored foods from a seated position. This fully accessible kitchen is flexible enough to adapt to changes of wheelchair and/or cushion and is also comfortable for carers and other members of the family to use. It is a large sink that is fit into the counter top with the front edge of the sink being exposed. Also known as farm sinks, apron front sinks were designed to be added to a space cut out of the kitchen counter.
