Solid oak dining table and black wood chairs make up the kitchen dining area in this space. The contemporary chandelier centers the kitchen table adjacent to the kitchen. Three modern pendants hang over the center island.

Keith met this couple from Hastings at Grand Designs who stumbled upon his talk on Creating Kitchens with Light Space & Laughter. A contemporary look was their wish for the new kitchen extension and had been disappointed with previous kitchen plan/designs suggested by other home & kitchen retailers. We made a few minor alterations to the architecture of their new extension by moving the position of the utility room door, stopped the kitchen island becoming a corridor and included a secret bookcase area which they love. We also created a link window into the lounge area that opened up the space and allowed the outdoor area to flow into the room with the use of reflected glass. The window was positioned opposite the kitchen island with cushioned seating to admire their newly landscaped garden and created a build-down above. The design comprises SieMatic Pure S2 collection in Sterling Grey, Miele appliances with 12mm Dekton worktops and 30mm Spekva Breakfast Bar on one corner of the Island for casual dining or perching.

Even the kitchen has a river view, supplied by backsplash windows.

The old Kitchen had natural wood cabinets that extended to the ceiling and dark stone countertops. Kitchen remodel within the existing 12′ x 13′ footprint. By vaulting the ceilings, adding skylights and enlarging the window over the sink, we brought in more volume and light. These elements along with the new soft neutral color palette make the space feel much larger and lighter.

This picturesque 1937 home features an abundance of woodwork, tile, and original architectural detail throughout the home. When it came time to replace the kitchen the owners wanted a design that allowed all the features of a modern kitchen while staying true to the style of the home. Handmade Cle tile, in an offset pattern, brightens the space and lends authenticity.

The use of handleless doors and features such as the low bench area with open shelves, beside the new picture window, combines practicality with stylish elegance. To keep the space clutter free, áine came up with an ingenious solution. ‘In one corner we designed an appliance nook where kitchen items such as the kettle, toaster, mixers, etc. can be stored. Above this we put a mini larder, finished with bi-folding doors for ease of access. This area is well lit with task lighting. In keeping with the contemporary theme we used contrasting colours, a combination of light grey on the main wall and Maura chose dark navy blue for the island unit which was custom sprayed.

Rodwin Architecture & Skycastle Homes Location: Boulder, Colorado, USA Interior design, space planning and architectural details converge thoughtfully in this transformative project. A 15-year old, 9,000 sf. home with generic interior finishes and odd layout needed bold, modern, fun and highly functional transformation for a large bustling family. To redefine the soul of this home, texture and light were given primary consideration. Elegant contemporary finishes, a warm color palette and dramatic lighting defined modern style throughout. A cascading chandelier by Stone Lighting in the entry makes a strong entry statement. Walls were removed to allow the kitchen/great/dining room to become a vibrant social center. A minimalist design approach is the perfect backdrop for the diverse art collection. Yet, the home is still highly functional for the entire family. We added windows, fireplaces, water features, and extended the home out to an expansive patio and yard. The cavernous beige basement became an entertaining mecca, with a glowing modern wine-room, full bar, media room, arcade, billiards room and professional gym. Bathrooms were all designed with personality and craftsmanship, featuring unique tiles, floating wood vanities and striking lighting. Spotted on Channel 4’s Renovation Nation, sympathy to the building, in the design of this kitchen, was key. Why? Because cupboards and a design that connects them to the surrounding architecture was also key. Practical for a family (multiple workstations and a generous floor plan), where the alcoves get used (noting the fridge/freezer tucked in) and an island actually bridging the space makes for a renovation journey.

We completed this renovation during lockdown for our clients who wanted an a contemporary solution to a kitchen redesign where they were also able to express their style and eclectic pieces. Working with Steven Andrews Bespoke to create a beautiful kitchen which followed our clients brief perfectly, delivering an elegant and practical kitchen. Modern glazing and exposed details added to the appeal for our client, helping link their outdoor space which they enjoyed a lot. Bespoke shapes and solutions including an angular island, bay window bench storage, huge floating shelves and a floating drawer to allow for the cat flap! We really enjoyed working on this space, and have loved receiving the photos from the talented Katherine of Malonda Photos.
