Lisa Konz Photography This was such a fun project working with these clients who wanted to take an old school, traditional lake house and update it. We moved the kitchen from the previous location to the breakfast area to create a more open space floor plan. We also added ship lap strategically to some feature walls and columns. The color palette we went with was navy, black, tan and cream. The decorative and central feature of the kitchen tile and family room rug really drove the direction of this project. With plenty of light once we moved the kitchen and white walls, we were able to go with dramatic black cabinets. The solid brass pulls added a little drama, but the light reclaimed open shelves and cross detail on the island kept it from getting too fussy and clean white Quartz countertops keep the kitchen from feeling too dark. There previously wasn't a fireplace so added one for cozy winter lake days with a herringbone tile surround and reclaimed beam mantle. To ensure this family friendly lake house can withstand the traffic, we added sunbrella slipcovers to all the upholstery in the family room. The back screened porch overlooks the lake and dock and is ready for an abundance of extended family and friends to enjoy this beautiful updated and classic lake home.

With tall ceilings, an impressive stone fireplace, and original wooden beams, this home in Glen Ellyn, a suburb of Chicago, had plenty of character and a style that felt coastal. Six months into the purchase of their home, this family of six contacted Alessia Loffredo and Sarah Coscarelli of ReDesign Home to complete their home’s renovation by tackling the kitchen. “Surprisingly, the kitchen was the one room in the home that lacked interest due to a challenging layout between kitchen, butler pantry, and pantry,” the designer shared, “the cabinetry was not proportionate to the space’s large footprint and height. None of the house’s architectural features were introduced into kitchen aside from the wooden beams crossing the room throughout the main floor including the family room.” She moved the pantry door closer to the prepping and cooking area while converting the former butler pantry a bar. Alessia designed an oversized hood around the stove to counterbalance the impressive stone fireplace located at the opposite side of the living space. She then wanted to include functionality, using Trim Tech‘s cabinets, featuring a pair with retractable doors, for easy access, flanking both sides of the range. The client had asked for an island that would be larger than the original in their space – Alessia made the smart decision that if it was to increase in size it shouldn’t increase in visual weight and designed it with legs, raised above the floor. Made out of steel, by Wayward Machine Co., along with a marble-replicating porcelain countertop, it was designed with durability in mind to withstand anything that her client’s four children would throw at it. Finally, she added finishing touches to the space in the form of brass hardware from Katonah Chicago, with similar toned wall lighting and faucet.

We maintained the Craftsman style of this kitchen and gave it a contemporary update. Warm walnut cabinets are juxtaposed with white cabinetry and a glossy, black-tiled backsplash. The design highlight here is the dramatic yet refined chandelier. The dining room is a sleek set up with fresh gold upholstery, a wine bar with a shimmery abstract backsplash, and a minimal floating pendant. --- Project designed by Denver, Colorado interior designer Margarita Bravo. Luxurious and modern kitchen. The standout feature is the large kitchen island with a striking marble countertop that appears to have dramatic veining patterns. The island has a sleek dark wood base with gold hardware accents. The kitchen features a mix of light and dark cabinetry, with the light cabinets near the windows allowing natural light to brighten the space. The backsplash behind the dark cabinets has a decorative tiled pattern adding visual interest. The ceiling has a unique wood beam design, and the lighting fixture above the island is a stylish grouping of white orb pendants. Large windows allow ample natural light to enter the space, and there are various decorative elements like vases with greenery and a breadbasket on the island countertop. Overall, the kitchen exudes a modern yet warm ambiance, with thoughtful design elements and high-end finishes creating a luxurious and inviting cooking and entertaining space.

Hand-finished stainless farm sink and island prep sink made out of 316L Marine Grade stainless steel. The large workstation sink along the window boasts a beautiful view while prepping food or washing up after an evening of entertaining. Small workstation sink in the island for easy access beside the stunning range and hood. Custom cabinetry sets the look apart for a fully tailored result.

Recycled timber flooring has been carefully selected and laid to create a back panel on the island bench. Push to open doors are disguised by the highly featured boards. Natural light floods into this room via skylights and windows letting nature indoors.

This was a fascinating project for incredible clients. To optimize costs and timelines, our Montecito studio took the existing Craftsman style of the kitchen and transformed it into a more contemporary one. We reused the perimeter cabinets, repainted for a fresh look, and added new walnut cabinets for the island and the appliances wall. The solitary pendant for the kitchen island was the focal point of our design, leaving our clients with a beautiful and everlasting kitchen remodel. --- Project designed by Montecito interior designer Margarita Bravo.
