Modern family loft renovation. A young couple starting a family in the city purchased this two story loft in Boston's South End. Built in the 1990's, the loft was ready for updates. ZED transformed the space, creating a fresh new look and greatly increasing its functionality to accommodate an expanding family within an urban setting. The navy blue stripe running through the center of the island and down the waterfall side, is absolutely the most attractive element of this fresh kitchen! In addition to the gold handles, faucets and lighting the wood grain laminate cabinets add warmth to this high gloss white acrylic kitchen. Built into the cabinet, are charming red stove knobs, that everyone seems to notice upon entering this magnificent space!

Located on the flat of Beacon Hill, this iconic building is rich in history and in detail. Constructed in 1828 as one of the first buildings in a series of row houses, it was in need of a major renovation to improve functionality and to restore as well as re-introduce charm.Originally designed by noted architect Asher Benjamin, the renovation was respectful of his early work. “What would Asher have done?” was a common refrain during design decision making, given today’s technology and tools. This kitchen renovation was part of a larger, extensive interior renovation for an existing penthouse condominium residence, located in Clayton, Missouri. The primary concept for the overall renovation was to bring architectural continuity throughout the entire residence with an edited materials palette that serves as a neutral backdrop for the owners’ extensive art collection. For the kitchen area specifically, dark flooring comprised of large-format Italian porcelain tiles is contrasted with high-gloss white cabinetry at the kitchen’s perimeter and gray-stained reconstituted veneer wrapping the island cabinetry. This neutral palette of white and gray is further enhanced with quartz countertops that include dramatic, gray veining. The custom banquette seating with built-in storage, activates the north wall of the kitchen and serves as an anchor for a new dining table and chairs. A contrasting blue velvet textile softens the built-in banquette, and provides a restrained field of color. The gray wood veneer is echoed at custom wall panels behind the banquette, serving as a textural backdrop for artwork installation. And a light, feathery chandelier hangs above the dining table with intention in mind to not obstruct views of the artwork beyond. ©Alise O'Brien Photography

Renovation and reconfiguration of a 4500 sf loft in Tribeca. The main goal of the project was to better adapt the apartment to the needs of a growing family, including adding a bedroom to the children's wing and reconfiguring the kitchen to function as the center of family life. One of the main challenges was to keep the project on a very tight budget without compromising the high-end quality of the apartment. The all white kitchen has a stunning contrast to its large walnut stained island bringing depth to the open concept main floor. Appliances used are Subzero and Wolf. A custom hood was designed for our clients, and perfectly balances the space. Cabinets are all inset flat panel with details of large drawers and open seedy glass at the top.
