This lower level kitchen is the perfect spot for entertaining kids and grown ups alike! From the large, expansive island to the open countertop buffet, the custom designed cabinetry is packed with storage and contains a paneled tall pantry, refrigerator, freezer and wine cabinet. Metallic pendants provide task lighting and the back-lit walnut cabinet have plenty of ambient lighting to set the perfect scene. The flooring is a pre-fab luxury vinyl plank, able to hold up to the hustle and bustle of poolside entertaining and indoor/outdoor activity.

A fabulous space for not only entertaining but preparing culinary delights with the professional appliances. The quartzite slabs where personally selected and meticulously planned for cuts to allow for all veins to run in one direction through out the entire kitchen, not an easy feat. Glass front upper cabinets allow for an open continuity with all the gorgeous views from multiple windows.

The kitchen and dining room in this 1960’s colonial were cramped and uncomfortable for any sort of large entertaining or crowd. With a small 3’ bump out along the back wall of the home, both rooms became much more spacious and useable. The kitchen addition allowed for a large center island and hearth cooking center as the focal point for the whole kitchen. While the expanded dining room, now allows room for a large holiday gathering, neighborhood card party or a group of kids after school. The custom kitchen was designed with Omega Cabinetry, leathered granite countertops around the perimeter and Ceasarstone on the island. The custom hearth hood encapsulates a 36” Thermador professional gas range top that makes cooking a joy! Alongside the 36” built-in Subzero French door refrigerator a Thermador steam/bake oven and convection oven offer the homeowner tremendous cooking and baking options. Finally, the microwave drawer in the island makes quick warm ups easy for the 3 children. Additionally, the kitchen was opened up dramatically to the home’s family room, creating an open feeling and central place for the family to gather. This new mountain-contemporary home was designed and built in the private club of Balsam Mountain, just outside of Asheville, NC. The homeowners wanted a contemporary styled residence that felt at home in the NC mountains. Rising above stone base that connects the house to the earth is cedar board and batten siding, Timber corners and entrance porch add a sturdy mountain posture to the overall aesthetic. The top is finished with mono pitched roofs to create dramatic lines and reinforce the contemporary feel.

Even the KitchenAid deserves its own, easily accessible storage space so there is no clutter on your counter.

The view of the kitchen, nook and living room area. Ample storage has been put into the kitchen with the addition of the pots and pan drawers, behind the frosted french doors is a spacious pantry which comes with it's own motion sensor, a standard for us! The nook has ample space for a big table and the doors lead to the deck off the rear. The living room is finished with a ribbon style fireplace, floating shelves that match the cabinetry and a wall mounted tv. This is a great use of space the open concept is going to make it a hit when it comes to visiting with family and friends.

With the choice of custom cabinetry the homeowner has the opportunity to create custom storage accessories that meet their needs. In this case custom compartments with cutting blades were factory-made to specification to hold commercial sized supplies of foil and plastic wrap.

The clients wanted space for 6 seats around the island with plenty of counter space for entertaining. Our designer added a special feature... a hidden pantry with a coffee bar! Floating shelves, specialty pullouts, and some extra charming details brought this space in a turn-of-the-century farmhouse to new life.

The open family kitchen allows for counter seating and an eat-in table. Family room is accessible through an arched opening. Contrasting cabinet finishes give definition to the space. A large chefs style stove top sits beneath a almost sculptural metal vent hood. Photography by Peter Rymwid.
