This estate is a transitional home that blends traditional architectural elements with clean-lined furniture and modern finishes. The fine balance of curved and straight lines results in an uncomplicated design that is both comfortable and relaxing while still sophisticated and refined. The red-brick exterior façade showcases windows that assure plenty of light. Once inside, the foyer features a hexagonal wood pattern with marble inlays and brass borders which opens into a bright and spacious interior with sumptuous living spaces. The neutral silvery grey base colour palette is wonderfully punctuated by variations of bold blue, from powder to robin’s egg, marine and royal. The anything but understated kitchen makes a whimsical impression, featuring marble counters and backsplashes, cherry blossom mosaic tiling, powder blue custom cabinetry and metallic finishes of silver, brass, copper and rose gold. The opulent first-floor powder room with gold-tiled mosaic mural is a visual feast.

When designing this beautiful kitchen, we knew that our client’s favorite color was blue. Upon entering the home, it was easy to see that great care had been taken to incorporate the color blue throughout. So, when our Designer Sherry knew that our client wanted an island, she jumped at the opportunity to add a pop of color to their kitchen. Having a kitchen island can be a great opportunity to showcase an accent color that you love or serve as a way to showcase your style and personality. Our client chose a bold saturated blue which draws the eye into the kitchen. Shadow Storm Marble countertops, 3x6 Bianco Polished Marble backsplash and Waypoint Painted Linen floor to ceiling cabinets brighten up the space and add contrast. Arabescato Carrara Herringbone Marble was used to add a design element above the range. The major renovations performed on this kitchen included: A peninsula work top and a small island in the middle of the room for the range was removed. A set of double ovens were also removed in order for the range to be moved against the wall to allow the middle of the kitchen to open up for the installment of the large island. Placing the island parallel to the sink, opened up the kitchen to the family room and made it more inviting.

This remodel was for a family that wanted a contemporary style kitchen with a mix of modern and traditional elements. To bring in the traditional, we installed hardwood flooring in grey and brown tones and Shaker style cabinets but updated them in a grey-brown color for the perimeter and a navy blue for the island. The cabinet hardware is a bronze color with a modern design-bar pulls instead of knobs for all cabinets and drawers. To emulate the color of the cabinet hardware, the island pendants are a bronze wire fixture in addition to the bronze brackets holding up the wine rack display. The countertops are a marble design quartz and the appliances are stainless steel. The backsplash on the stove wall is a contemporary linen-like tile installed in a chevron design and the coffee bar area is also a linen-like tile but in an abstract design. There is a walnut shelf above the quartz countertops to bring in some warmth and rustic elements to the area. For a more contemporary feel, we left the HVAC exposed but painted it white as well as the traditional wooden beams. Overall, the design team and the clients felt the kitchen lived up to their expectations and more of what a Contemporary design could be. Photos by Rick Young

On reviewing the architect’s proposed floor plans, we could see a great opportunity to manipulate the space available to enhance the entire layout of the kitchen design. This then allowed us to introduce a large bespoke island that would cater for both guests and chef. Being out in the Archerfield woodland area we wanted to keep a traditional classic style with a touch of contemporary features. We proposed a plain shaker profile door so that the form of the cabinetry would not only relate to the solid straight lines of the stone work, but also give a clean, architectural but traditional feel. We felt it was important to have the kitchen furniture, where it meets the ceiling, be encased within the coving around the ceiling, evoking the feeling that the furniture was part of the original architecture. We worked closely with the stone fabricators to have the Gaggenau hobs perfectly aligned with the key locations of the control knobs on the stone clad island. Overall we feel the manipulation of the floor plan at the early stage has truly transformed the original proposal into something now that is simply beautiful and understated and has exceeded our clients’ brief and expectations.

This traditional shaker style kitchen is a project we completed earlier in the year based in Royston. The bespoke blue handpainted fronts work in tandem with the polished grey quartz, while the wood flooring brings it altogether. This is a very versatile space used for dining and entertaining. This kitchen was designed with European French influences in a color palette of French blue, white, black and gold. The custom cabinetry was a labor of love with a hand carved quilted diamond pattern (the carving details of our cabinets are never machine made!) and lovely swirl stiles on the glass front cabinets. The marble throughtout is Carrara, the range hood in cast stone and the three fancy light pendants were custom made to order.
