They wanted a larger island and easier access to the dining room. They also wanted to eliminate the existing cooktop location from the island and make the island larger. Because the existing space was not able to accommodate all those requests, we decided to eliminate the breakfast area and incorporate that space into the kitchen. By eliminating an existing bay window and making the kitchen sink window larger, we were able to make the new layout work without sacrificing any natural light. A French door to the newly added and adjoining sunroom and casual outdoor dining spot still allows for multiple dining options. And by enlarging the opening to the dining room, it allows for easier access to this space on a daily basis versus for special occasions only. The client already had a large desk in the kitchen and spends a lot of time at this area. We were able to make the new desk even larger by moving the refrigerator to another area. The refrigerator is covered in decorative panels so that it blends nicely into the furniture look of the room. The larger island can now seat several people comfortably. The room’s traditional feel was achieved by providing different finishes on the perimeter, island and desk cabinetry. Handmade gray backsplash tile, a combination of soapstone and Carrera marble give the space a classic appeal. Details provide interest – custom glass mullions, decorative wood hood and bronze hardware give the space character and charm. This light and airy kitchen combines traditional accents with transitional ones. Black honed granite counter tops are balanced by dark accents through out the space like the slat-back island stools, lantern pendant fixtures above, and bronze hardware on doors. The light stone on the kitchen island work beautifully with white cabinets, Nickel pulls, and Nickel plumbing fixtures. The kitchen's honed stone counter top is repeated at the pass-through to the dining room. The counter top is supported by curvy decorative brackets that are a great balance to the rectilinear characteristics of the shaker style kitchen cabinets. Architectural millwork and column at Dining Room entry add a traditional element to this relaxed space. The combinations of all these finishes bring personalty and warmth to the home. This tiny, bungalow kitchen is reimagined with white, shaker cabinets that go to the ceiling, black, granite countertops and hardware for contrast, a simple white shaker backsplash, and refinished natural wood floors.

This farmhouse kitchen design in Joelton combines rustic charm with modern design features to create a space that is bright, functional, and stylish. The space incorporates Echelon cabinetry for the main kitchen cabinets in an Ardmore door style on maple in a linen finish accented by a black granite countertop. It includes a separate beverage bar with cabinetry in a Baltic finish complemented by a Dekton countertop that gives it a distinctive look. The beverage bar includes glass front cabinets, a microwave shelf, wine storage, and an undercounter refrigerator. The kitchen backsplash is Lungarno Retrospectives, which is a white porcelain tile. The striking counter to ceiling backsplash on the sink wall is offset perfectly by open storage with floating wood shelves. NGF hardwood flooring adds warm tones to this welcoming farmhouse design.

A corner sink overlooks the front of the house. Antique lighting gives the space its charming English character. Flat roman shades add color that this family loves.

Our team was able to extend the upper cabinets all the way to the ceiling, taking advantage of vertical space, and also extend the lower cabinet doors flush with the new countertop and undermount sink. Raising the upper cabinets also provided for more usable space on top of the counter, allowing for tall appliances (like the electric mixer) to sit against the backsplash without appearing cluttered.
