This gorgeous new kitchen used to be just about half the size before we stepped in for renovations. Not only did we open up the space, but we completely changed nearly every design aspect! The kitchen went from a U-shape to an L-shape, we added an island with seating, swapped laminate counters for quartz and upgraded the backsplash tile. We replaced the old wood-tone cabinets with sleek, painted cabinets - and installed under cabinet lighting and plugs to keep the counters looking bright and clutter-free.

Distinctive Holkham cabinets, providing lots of storage and space that a family needs. Stunning brass fittings on the pantries and dressers to complete the warm finish to this Hollham Kitchen. Bleheim Grey brushed limestone floor tiles wirh heated flooring underneath. Topped off with the excellent Nordic Square boiling water tap from Quooker.

The tall end larder unit is sat on an angle which allows plenty of storage space as it goes back further than a standard cupboard. As this picture shows, there is ample storage with shelves and a tall bottle rack! The internal light is a great idea, no more rummaging around in a dark corner. .

This project began with the goal of updating both style and function to allow for improved ease of use for a wheelchair. The previous space was overstuffed with an island that didn't really fit, an over-sized fridge in a location that complicated a primary doorway, and a 42" tall high bar that was inaccessible from a wheelchair. Our clients desired a space that would improve wheelchair use for both cooking or just being in the room, yet did not look like an ADA space. It became a story of less is more, and subtle, thoughtful changes from a standard design. After working through options, we designed an open floorplan that provided a galley kitchen function with a full 5 ft walkway by use of a peninsula open to the family den. This peninsula is highlighted by a drop down, table-height countertop wrapping the end and long backside that is now accessible to all members of the family by providing a perfect height for a flexible workstation in a wheelchair or comfortable entertaining on the backside. We then dropped the height for cooking at the new induction cooktop and created knee space below. Further, we specified an apron front sink that brings the sink closer in reach than a traditional undermount sink that would have countertop rimming in front. An articulating faucet with no limitations on reach provides full range of access in the sink. The ovens and microwave were also situated at a height comfortable for use from a wheelchair. Where a refrigerator used to block the doorway, a pull out is now located giving easy access to dry goods for cooks at all heights. Every element within the space was considered for the impact to our homes occupants - wheelchair or not, even the doorswing on the microwave. Now our client has a kitchen that every member of the family can use and be a part of. Simple design, with a well-thought out plan, makes a difference in the lives of another family. Robin Stancliff photo credits. My goal for this project was to create a modern, minimalist kitchen that isn’t cold or industrial. The original kitchen was very dark and enclosed, so the first step to enhancing this kitchen was to open it up and create a sense of light and space in the room. By raising the soffit, removing the built-in cabinets, and changing the position of the ovens, microwave, and refrigerator, I was able to create a better layout that maximizes every inch of the kitchen as useful space. I removed the divider wall, tripling the size of the opening from the dining room to the kitchen, and I added natural clear Alder cabinets. My client envisioned a kitchen with two-toned cabinets, so I paired the locally crafted Alder with grey upper cabinets and grey Shaker style cabinets on the island to make it stand out more. I also added wood-look LVT for a stylish yet highly durable kitchen floor. The countertops are Della Terra quartz with a matte finish for a more natural feeling texture that cuts down on glare, and I paired the counters with a grey porcelain subway tile backsplash for easy-cleaning. A unique feature of this kitchen is that the outlets are barely visible, as I hid them underneath the cabinets. I added under-cabinet lighting, and converted the kitchen lights to LED, aside from the Edison lightbulbs in the hanging pendants. The biggest challenge for this project was devising a way to heat and cool the kitchen while working with minimal structural elements. However, by moving the HVAC above the refrigerator the kitchen now has more cooling than it did previously, while having a more modern aesthetic. With natural lighting and abundant storage options, this kitchen is now bright, clean, and de-cluttered.
