The clients believed the peninsula footprint was required due to the unique entry points from the hallway leading to the dining room and the foyer. The new island increases storage, counters and a more pleasant flow of traffic from all directions. The biggest challenge was trying to make the structural beam that ran perpendicular to the space work in a new design; it was off center and difficult to balance the cabinetry and functional spaces to work with it. In the end it was decided to increase the budget and invest in moving the header in the ceiling to achieve the best design, esthetically and funcationlly. Specific storage designed to meet the clients requests include: - pocket doors at counter tops for everyday appliances - deep drawers for pots, pans and Tupperware - island includes designated zone for baking supplies - tall and shallow pantry/food storage for easy access near island - pull out spice near cooking - tray dividers for assorted baking pans/sheets, cutting boards and numerous other serving trays - cutlery and knife inserts and built in trash/recycle bins to keep things organized and convenient to use, out of sight - custom design hutch to hold various, yet special dishes and silverware Elements of design chosen to meet the clients wishes include: - painted cabinetry to lighten up the room that lacks windows and give relief/contrast to the expansive wood floors - monochromatic colors throughout give peaceful yet elegant atmosphere o stained island provides interest and warmth with wood, but still unique in having a different stain than the wood floors – this is repeated in the tile mosaic backsplash behind the rangetop - punch of fun color used on hutch for a unique, furniture feel - carefully chosen detailed embellishments like the tile mosaic, valance toe boards, furniture base board around island, and island pendants are traditional details to not only the architecture of the home, but also the client’s furniture and décor. - Paneled refrigerator minimizes the large appliance, help keeping an elegant feel Superior cooking equipment includes a combi-steam oven, convection wall ovens paired with a built-in refrigerator with interior air filtration to better preserve fresh foods. David Reeve Architectural Photography; The Village of Chevy Chase is an eclectic mix of early-20th century homes, set within a heavily-treed romantic landscape. The Zantzinger Residence reflects the spirit of the period: it is a center-hall dwelling, but not quite symmetrical, and is covered with large-scale siding and heavy roof overhangs. The delicately-columned front porch sports a Chippendale railing. The family needed to update the home to meet its needs: new gathering spaces, an enlarged kitchen, and a Master Bedroom suite. The solution includes a two story addition to one side, balancing an existing addition on the other. To the rear, a new one story addition with one continuous roof shelters an outdoor porch and the kitchen. The kitchen itself is wrapped in glass on three sides, and is centered upon a counter-height table, used for both food preparation and eating. For daily living and entertaining, it has become an important center to the house.

This kitchen was designed with all custom cabinetry with the lower cabinets finished in Sherwin Williams Iron Ore and the upper cabinets finished in Sherwin Williams Origami. The quartzite countertops carry up the backsplash at the back. The gold faucet and fixtures add a bit of warmth to the cooler colors of the kitchen.

This shot clearly shows the vaulted ceilings and massive windows that dominate this kitchen space. These architectural accents mixed with the finishes and appliances culminate in a magnificent kitchen that is warm and inviting for all who experience it. The Zebrino marble island and backsplash are clearly shown and the LED under-lighting helps to accentuate the beautiful veining throughout the backsplash. This kitchen has since won two awards through NKBA and ASID competitions, and is the crowning jewel of our clients home.

Este cliente posee unas vistas privilegiadas que quería disfrutar también desde su cocina, por ello decidió derribar la pared que la separaba del salón creando un espacio abierto desde el que vemos el mar desde cualquier punto de la estancia. La apertura de la puerta con el perfil «Step» proporciona un efecto visual minimalista al conjunto. Para generar contraste se ha elegido una laca en negro brillante en los muebles altos, creando un acabado espejo que refleja perfectamente las vistas, potenciando la luminosidad en la estancia. En la encimera tenemos un Dekton modelo Galema en 4 cm de espesor que combina perfectamente con el color de la puerta, obteniendo un sólido efecto monocromo. Los electrodomésticos Para los electrodomésticos nuestro cliente ha confiado en la exclusiva marca Miele, empezando por la inducción en el modelo KM7667FL con 620 mm de ancho y una superficie de inducción total Con@ctivity 3.0. El horno modelo H2860BO está en columna con el microondas modelo M2230SC ambos de Miele en acabado obsidian black. El frigorífico K37672ID y el lavavajillas G5260SCVI, ambos de Miele, están integrados para que la cocina sea más minimalista visualmente. La campana integrada al techo modelo PRF0146248 HIGHLIGHT GLASS de Elica en cristal blanco es potente, silenciosa y discreta, fundiéndose con el techo gracias a su diseño moderno y elegante. Por último, tenemos una pequeña vinoteca en la isla modelo WI156 de la marca Caple. En la zona de aguas tenemos el fregadero de la maca Blanco modelo Elon XL en color antracita, junto con un grifo de Schock modelo SC-550. In the kitchen we exposed the previously hidden original brick walls by eliminating the upper storage and swapping with chunky shelves that wrap the brick. Additional lighting onto the texture of the exposed brick brings the architecture back into the space and provides a nice contrast to the sleek slab doors. We created placement for dish storage by adding a wall of shallow drawers underneath with peg organizers. We extended the island to provide additional seating and more space for baking.

The classic white kitchen gets a pop of color! From the bright blue island to the stunning glass backsplash, we love this bright, bold, and welcoming space.

Custom kitchen design featuring a mix of flat panel cabinetry in a dark stained oak and SW Origami white paint. The countertops are a honed quartz meant to resemble concrete, while the backsplash is a slab of natural quartzite with a polished finish. A locally crafted custom dining table is made from oak and stained a bit lighter than the cabinetry, but darker than the plain sawn oak floors. The artwork was sourced locally through Haen Gallery in Asheville. A pendant from Hubbardton Forge hangs over the dining table.
