Lower ground was transformed from two small dark basement rooms into one bright open-plan kitchen and dining space. Modern white kitchen was imported from Italy and complemented with carrara quartz worktop and grey glass splash-back from a local stone supplier. Bespoke glass and steel lobby partition, which was required to comply with Building Control health and safety regulations, became one of the main features of the space. We had to be careful on this project because our client cuts Kevin's hair! They had already had the loft conversion carried out by a loft conversion company but were looking for someone to build the extension. When presented with the plans, Kevin was horrified to see what a terrible use of space there was and immediately persuaded the clients to pay for a session with a fantastic local architect, who massively improved the scheme with the movement of a few walls. For this project Kevin had to "invent" fixed panes of roof lights complete with self-designed and installed gutter system as the extremely expensive fixed lights the architect had required were uneconomical based on the project value. In keeping with refusing to use artificial roof slates, the ground floor extension is fully slated and has a seamless aluminium gutter fitted for a very clean appearance. Using our in-house brick matching expert Robert, we were able to almost identically match the bricks and, if you look at the loft conversion, you will see what happens when you don't pay attention to detail like this. Inside we fitted a brand new kitchen over underfloor heating and a utility room with a downstairs wc, but the most striking feature can be seen in the photos and this is the 6-pane bi-fold door system. Once again, we were blessed with a client with good taste in design and everything she has chosen hugely complements the excellent building work.

Our clients wanted a fresh approach to make their compact kitchen work better for them. They also wanted it to integrate well with their dining space alongside, creating a better flow between the two rooms and the access from the hallway. On a small footprint, the original kitchen layout didn’t make the most of the available space. Our clients desperately wanted more storage as well as more worktop space. We designed a new kitchen space for our clients, which made use of the footprint they had, as well as improving the functionality. By changing the doorway into the room, we changed the flow through the kitchen and dining spaces and created a deep alcove on the righthand-side of the dining room chimney breast. Freeing up this alcove was a massive space gain, allowing us to increase kitchen storage. We designed a full height storage unit to match the existing cupboards on the other wide of the chimney breast. This new, super deep cupboard space is almost 80cm deep. We divided the internal space between cupboard space above and four considerable drawer pull-outs below. Each drawer holds up to 70kg of contents and pulls right out to give our clients an instant overview of their dry goods and supplies – a fantastic kitchen larder. We painted the new full height cupboard to match and gave them both new matching oak knob handles. The old kitchen had two shorter worktop runs and there was a freestanding cupboard in the space between the cooking and dining zones. We created a compact kitchen peninsula to replace the freestanding unit and united it with the sink run, creating a slim worktop run between the two. This adds to the flow of the kitchen, making the space more of a defined u-shaped kitchen. By adding this new stretch of kitchen worktop to the design, we could include even more kitchen storage. The new kitchen incorporates shallow storage between the peninsula and the sink run. We built in open shelving at a low level and a useful mug and tea cupboard at eye level. We made all the kitchen cabinets from our special eco board, which is produced from 100% recycled timber. The flat panel doors add to the sleek, unfussy style. The light colour cabinetry lends the kitchen a feeling of light and space. The kitchen worktops and upstands are made from recycled paper – created from many, many layers of recycled paper, set in resin to bond it. A really unique material, it is incredibly tactile and develops a lovely patina over time. The pale-coloured kitchen cabinetry is paired with “barely there” toughened glass elements which all help to give the kitchen area a feeling of light and space. The subtle glass splashback behind the hob reflects light into the room as well as protecting the wall surface. The window sills are all made to match and also bounce natural light into the room. The new kitchen is a lovely new functional space which flows well and is integrated with the dining space alongside.

Iconic product design and pieces of furniture can be found throughout the home, from Jielde wall lights to Carl Hansen Elbow chairs and stools to Ercol dining units. The bulthaup b1 kitchen provided a style that worked well with all these pieces and the architecture of the property.

This new build in Battle Ground is the true definition of "modern farmhouse". Yes it's actually a modern house on a farm! The kitchen opens up to the outdoor entertaining area and has a nice open layout. The coffee bar on the side gets lots of use from all of the family members and keeps people out of the cooking area if they need to grab a cup of coffee or tea. Appliances are Miele and Fisher & Paykel. The bar-top is black Fenix.

A bright and bold kitchen we designed and installed for a family in Blackheath at the end of last year. The colours look absolutely stunning and the orange back-painted glass splashback really stands out (particularly when the under cabinet lights are on). All of the materials are so tactile - from the cabinets finished in Fenix to the Azzurite quartzite worktop on the Island, and the stunning concrete floor. Motion sensor Philips Hue lighting, Siemens StudioLine appliances and a Franke Tap and Sink complete the kitchen.

The clients wanted to have clean uninterrupted lines in their kitchen. This was created by not having any handles on the overheads and choosing white appliances. The sleek curved handles work well in a small space as you are less likely to injure yourself on sharp corners. The high gloss look was able to be achieved using melamine in Formica Snow Drift Gloss. The Silestone benchtop in White storm compliments the kitchen.
