Authentic British Kitchen in Hove, East Sussex

For this Hove project designer Aron has combined traditional grey woodgrain furniture with sparkling white quartz work surfaces. The Brief These Hove clients required a modernisation of their kitchen space with some present-day innovations to increase functionality. In terms of style, a fusion of traditional and modern styles was needed, with an in-frame door preferred. The favoured layout was very similar to the previous, as it made the best use of the space available. A flooring improvement was also a key part of the project. Design Elements With the layout remaining quite similar, the most drastic changes to this kitchen were in the style. To achieve the modern and traditional feel, designer Aron has utilised the wood-grained Modern Classic furniture option from British supplier Mereway. It combines the in-frame structure with a traditional wood grain door front, and for this project has been used in a Castle Grey finish with cornice on full-height and wall units. The cabinetry and joinery used for this project has been handmade by our British supplier and is equipped with dovetail joinery and oak internals for drawers. A peninsula island was specified as per the previous design, which utilises sparkling quartz work surfaces in a White Attica finish. A tall door in the corner of the kitchen space appears to be extra storage, but in fact opens up to an existing pantry space. Special Inclusions A high-specification of Neff appliances has been used for this project. A Neff Slide & Hide single oven, Neff built-in microwave, Neff flexInduction hob, Neff extractor hood and Neff dishwasher all feature in the kitchen, along with the client's own American fridge freezer. For general use, a mixer tap and under-mounted 1.5 bowl Blanco have been specified, with useful drainer grooves fabricated into the work surface. Another special inclusion was the flooring, which has been improved throughout the entire kitchen and dining area. The chosen finish is a stone effect Karndean option named Grey Riven Slate. This kitchen is a recent dry fitted installation designed from our Horsham showroom by designer George Harvey. This kitchen makes use of German manufactured Nobilia furniture in a slate grey shade from the Stone Art range and a Havana Oak effect in the Structura range. The two door styles used in this kitchen complement each other extremely well, with the texture on both adding an element of depth to the kitchen. To create a contemporary space the handleless option has been used from both ranges, with a stainless-steel handrail used for access and LED strip lighting used to continue the modern dynamic. This kitchen features a number of functional and aesthetic based design elements which are all easily integrated into a Nobilia kitchen. The first is a roll-up fronted tambour unit which utilises semi-transparent smoked black screening to allow easy access to items. Inside this unit lighting from the top of the unit has been used to create a dramatic space for storing items. This kitchen also uses two Havana Oak effect open shelving on both sides of the kitchen for additional storage of kitchen essentials and decorations.

The worktop & upstands are made of quartz, sealed with a highly heat & stain resistant finish to ensure a lifelong product. Steam extraction is provided by a Neff Airdeluxe Downdraft pop up extractor unit installed into the worktop. Finally, the flooring is provided by Karndean for a luxurious feel underfoot.

This kitchen is a recent installation from the Horsham area, it has been designed by George from our Horsham showroom and installed by our local installation team. This kitchen has been designed to be a sociable open space, with German Nobilia furniture used to create a breakfast bar and TV unit. The touch door used is by far one of our most popular from our Horsham showroom with many recent installations utilising its silky matt texture in the kitchen. The touch range is a common choice as it can be used with traditional handles or in handleless form as shown, creating an ultra-modern space. The Alpine White shade used in this kitchen is one of seven available in the touch range which in this kitchen is nicely complemented by a stainless-steel handrail, allowing space to access storage areas. This kitchen makes use of several unique features that Nobilia offer including red wine storage, a translucent glass panel cabinet and matching tv unit furniture. The standout feature however in this kitchen is the stunning golden glass splashback that even features a smooth curved edge. The gold theme has been carried on with gold accents used in the kitchen lighting and other decorations.

A blue and grey theme and peninsula island space achieve this client's ambitions for this extended kitchen area. The Brief This client sought a kitchen design to suit the modern rear extension being built at their property. They favoured a contemporary theme with plenty of modern inclusions to add daily function to their new kitchen space. A breakfast bar or island was a key requirement, as a place to perch and to make the area more sociable. Design Elements A combination of Indigo Blue and Light Grey cabinetry has been utilised to achieve the modern design this client favoured. The furniture is from British brand Trend and is their Matt effect foiled slab option, which has been paired with integrated chrome handles. To best utilise the space within the new extension, designer Alistair has created a L-shape layout with tall units used to house appliances and important storage space. The island area was a key desirable, and Alistair has incorporated this by using a wrap-around peninsula design. This design adds storage and provides a social space to perch while cooking or for more casual use. The island and entire kitchen are fitted with hard-wearing quartz work surfaces from brand Silestone. The chosen finish Snowy Ibiza is a white veined option that teams really well with grey accents used in the room. To match the work surfaces and light theme a quartz composition 1.5 bowl Blanco silgranite sink has also been installed. Special Inclusions As well as a redesign of the kitchen area, this client sought to improve the usability and function of the space with a new array of appliances. A selection of Neff appliances have been specified, which where possible have been integrated to allow the indigo blue and light grey theme to take centre-stage. A Neff single oven, combination oven, refrigerator, freezer, hob, extractor, dishwasher and integrated washing machine have been supplied and installed as part of this project. Our team also installed some of the finishing touches to this project. Karndean flooring has been installed throughout the kitchen and island area, and the honed oyster slate finish combines well with lighter elements of the theme. To heat the new extension our team have also installed a full-height anthracite radiator close to the sink area. Project Highlight This island area is the highlight of this project, its unique shape incorporates useful storage and the perching area this client required. During construction designer Alistair recommended the widening of the doorway to increase spaciousness of the island, which adds a great flow in between the living room and kitchen. The End Result The end result achieves all the elements of this client’s initial brief whilst incorporating great design expertise from kitchen designer Alistair. This project highlights the fantastic results that can be achieved for extension projects. キッチンは美味しい食事を作るためには欠かせないスペース。毎日使う場所だからこそ、機能性だけではなくおしゃれさにもこだわりたいものです。ここでは、使い勝手の良さやおしゃれさにこだわったL型キッチンのリフォーム事例と、L型キッチンリフォームのポイントをご紹介します。

L型キッチンの改善ポイントを考える

まずは、現在使用しているキッチンを見直してみましょう。調理するスペースが狭い、高さが自分の身長に合っていない、収納スペースが少ないなど、キッチンによってさまざまな改善ポイントが見つかるはずです。こうした改善ポイントをもとに、L型キッチンのリフォームを検討しましょう。

動線や広さ、レイアウトの見直し

L型キッチンスペースは人の動きに合わせてレイアウトすることが重要です。動線を意識して、広さやレイアウトを見直しましょう。広さの目安として、キッチン空間を2～3歩で行き来できるのが良いといわれています。狭すぎず広すぎず、キッチンの通路幅は0.9～1.2m程度に収めると良いでしょう。また、冷蔵庫とシンク、コンロを結ぶ三角形の動線（ワークトライアングル）が正三角形に近いほど、作業効率が良いとされています。3辺の合計が3.6～6.6mに収まるように配置すると、効率良く動ける程よい広さとなるでしょう。次にL型キッチンデザインとレイアウトを特徴別に確認してみましょう。1人で料理をするのか複数人で料理をするのかなど、さまざまなシーンで使い勝手の良いレイアウトを検討してみてください。現在では以下5つのレイアウトが一般的です。

Ⅰ型L型キッチン
Ⅰ型L型キッチンは最も一般的なレイアウトで、シンク、調理台、コンロ、冷蔵庫が横一線に並んだタイプのL型キッチンです。最近では、対面カウンターを付けて背面に収納スペースと冷蔵庫を置くなど、Ⅱ型やアイランド型に似たタイプのレイアウトも人気です。
Ⅱ型L型キッチン
Ⅱ型キッチンはシンク、調理台、コンロ、冷蔵庫を2カ所に分け、平行に配置することで調理スペースを広げるレイアウトです。調理の際の動線が短くなるというメリットがあります。
L型L型キッチン
L型L型キッチンは、シンク、調理台、コンロがL字型に配置されたレイアウトです。ワークトライアングルを作りやすく、動線をコンパクトに抑えることができます。
アイランドL型キッチン
アイランドL型キッチンは独立型L型キッチンとも呼ばれ、シンク、調理台などを壁面から独立させて設置するレイアウトです。調理台を囲むように作業ができるため、家族や友人など複数で楽しみながらキッチンを共有できます。ホームパーティーや料理教室をする際にも便利でしょう。
ペニンシュラL型キッチン
ペニンシュラは英語で「半島」を意味します。L型キッチンの左右どちらかが壁に接しているレイアウトを指します。調理スペースがオープンになっているため、リビングやダイニングにいる方とコミュニケーションを取りながら調理できるというメリットがあります。

ビルトイン機器の選択

L型キッチンタイプのレイアウト見直しと同時に、ビルトイン機器も検討されてみてはいかがでしょうか。ビルトイン機器とは、建物や家具、設備などの中に組み込んで利用する機器を指します。システムキッチンには、ビルトインコンロ、レンジフード、オーブンレンジ、食器洗浄乾燥機を組み込むことが可能です。ビルトインであればスタイリッシュにL型キッチンに溶け込み、インテリアの邪魔にもなりません。新築やリフォームの際に取り入れることをおすすめします。

ビルトインコンロ
ビルトインコンロには、それぞれ火力の異なるバーナーを組み合わせた3つ口タイプが一般的です。天板素材はガラストップが主流となっていますが、他にガラスコート、フッ素コート、ホーロー、アルミ、ステンレスなどがあります。使い勝手やデザイン、価格などを考慮して選択しましょう。
食器洗浄乾燥機
食器洗浄乾燥機 (食洗機) は手洗いよりも少ない水量できれいに食器を洗浄することができるため、新築やL型キッチンのリフォーム時には食洗機の導入をおすすめします。国内製のビルトイン食洗機の場合は引き出し式になっているタイプが多いのに対し、海外製のビルトイン食洗機は前開き式になっているものが一般的です。国内製・海外製それぞれで、設置業者や設置可能なシステムL型キッチンが異なる場合があるため注意しましょう。

収納スペースのアイデア

いかにデッドスペースを活かすかがL型キッチン収納のコツです。％Topicの収納は限られているため、多くの食器や調理器具、調味料などを片付けるための工夫が必要です。ビルトイン機器も限られたスペースできれいに収納する工夫のひとつといえるでしょう。システムL型キッチンの収納スペース以外のキッチン収納スペースとしては、床下収納が代表的です。床下の他に、壁面収納なども人気です。壁面収納の場合、食器や調理器具だけでなくL型キッチン家電までも収納し、スタイリッシュで生活感の出ないL型キッチンを演出することもできるでしょう。
