Although this stunning kitchen is located in roughly the same part of this completely remodelled home as it always has been, it is worlds apart in terms of design and functionality. The entire ground floor has been opened up by extending and removing walls and doors to create an open plan kitchen/dining space, which is quite striking, and very much on show, right from entering the house. Matt taupe cabinetry has been framed with bespoke solid Wenge wood, complimented by a light polished, Silestone Yukon quartz worktop. An inviting breakfast bar has been included to ensure this is an ultimately sociable space, and this also acts as a link between the kitchen and the dining area. The overall layout has been carefully considered and appliances have been positioned in such a way as to ensure that the clients have everything they need within a practical working triangle. A quirky feature is the wall-mounted Verve Elica extractor, positioned carefully on a supporting pillar between the two large windows. With the interesting mix of materials along with extras such as the leather handles and pendant lighting, a gentle industrial edge has been achieved.

This kitchen has a lot of visual interest for your typical "transitional" kitchen. The cabinets are flat panel, but with a paint and glaze that highlights the kitchen cabinets. The island is a contrasting gray. The floors are a light engineered hardwood and the backsplash is a glass pattern sheet. The owners of this 1968 post-and-beam home that is a part of the original Reston planned community were seeking to modernize an untouched “time capsule” house while respecting the existing mid-century bones of the home. An entire renovation to the existing house as well as a two-car garage addition and rear decks help maintain the character of the existing home while further opening up the rear of the home to the nature preserve in the back. *currently under construction.

This home's layout is typical of many homes in Australia, with the dining room separate to the kitchen, but adjacent to it, and accessed via a standard sized door. Whilst the owners did not wish to change this arrangement, they did want to have the kitchen more integrated into the family area and the outside. This was achieved by maximising the size of the breakfast bar and changing the standard window for a bifold at bench height, and extending the benchtop to the outside. The result is a much more contemporary look, complete with glass splashback and handle-less cabinetry. As the client uses the microwave extensively, they opted to have it on bench, rather than on wall or in a tower. Features include: an oven with separate grill, a generous double-bowl undermount sink, an enviable pantry, and loads of storage. The lovely Caesarstone Frosty Carrina benchtop adds a touch of luxury, and teams beautifully with the cabinetry and splashback.
