This contemporary kitchen in a luxury condominium is state of the art. The stained *cabinets are contrasted by white glass appliances, stainless steel accents and recycled glass countertops. The floating wall houses the ovens, microwave, warming steamer on the kitchen side. On the opposite side there is a continuation of the fine woodwork throughout the space . Refrigerators are completely built-in and clad in the same wood as to appear to be a cabinet. Stainless drawers complete the base cabinet below the cooktop and create the detail at the corners of the center island. Dishwashers flank the sink and are covered in the same cabinetry forming a seamless effect. The stone top on the outside island had a waterfall detail and additional storage. Modern - Interior Design projects by J Design Group Miami. http://www.JDesignGroup.com JW Magazine publishes a client’s luxury waterfront condo in Miami and she states: WHEN JENNIFER CORREDOR OF THE J Design Group designed this 2- bedroom, 2½-bath, waterfront condo in Miami, her biggest challenge was to add color and create a dining area out of a small but charming space. The Coral Gables-based designer had never met the couple when they hired her earlier this year to transform their 15thfloor, 2000-square-foot vacation home into a modern, minimalist stunner with splashy sub-tropical colors. The globe-trotting, Barcelona-based executive and his engineer wife had seen Corredor’s work on the Internet and were blown away by her use of art, color and clean design to create a livable environment. They learned through continuous telephone conversations that the designer understood how to utilize the beauty of Miami and its dazzling waterfront while keeping the home spare, lean and bright. So they hired her at the end of January to work her magic on their new American home “This was a fascinating project that moved at lightning speed,” says Corredor, a native of Jamaica. “The wife is Colombian and the husband is Canadian. They live in Spain with their two children, and basically hired me by phone to furnish their condo.But I had changes in mind to help them enjoy Miami. And they agreed.” For example, Corredor thought the powder room needed to be dressed up, so she changed the doors to become modern and warm with clean lines. She also ordered a special green glass treatment that she designed and had installed by K&G. She added a green frosted glass pedestal sink and matching green sun fixture on the wall. For the den/guest room, she added a glass partition and worked to transform a dark and somber space into a playful palette of bold color. “I added a red wall in geometric design and a frosted door outlined with exotic wood,” she says. “I used furnishings to make the den lively, including a modern carpet from Sweden, and I added punches of color.” For the difficult dining area, she incorporated the table into an island junction off of the kitchen, adding a clever vignette that is both functional and fashionable. The dining table was custom designed, produced and installed by the Miami Wall Unit Group, a company that knows how to incorporate furniture into tight spaces. “The island is used for dining and doing work,” the designer says. “The family can eat at the table, and for other purposes that they choose, it also becomes a standard island. This is a vacation home, so the family doesn’t cook much. But they will spend more time here now that the design is complete.” Corredor found just the right places in the kitchen to add color. The backspash shines in aqua glass emulating tones from the ocean, and the vivid green bar stools which double as dining chairs by Icon Furniture blend with the earth tones of the cabinets, bases and countertops as well as the stainless steel appliances. Bold greens in the floral art work hanging on the wall are intended to capture the purity of Miami and play off of the color of the bar stools. The contemporary living room/family room is another brilliant use of color on white, which again, started as a virtual blank palette. With great floor-to-ceiling window/door views of Biscayne Bay leading to Key Biscayne, the designer had to decide what colors would work with the outside sneaking in via a spacious balcony. So she found a bold orange contemporary painting to hang above the white sofa made of versatile Alcantara fabric from KMP Furniture. She picked a splashy orange and white throw rug to go over the Opus Stone floors. The orange painting brings out the orange in the rug, adding understated zip to the room. Atop the rug is an imported tempered glass coffee table curved underneath for magazines. White swivel chairs round out the vignette. She designed a green wall as the backdrop to the Samsung LED7000 TV and used cable lighting and sconces to complete the ambience in this room. The outdoor colors work well with the great water views visible through the window/doors. Similarly, the master bedroom has beautiful bay views with the blue of the water and sky dominating a full side of the room from window/doors leading to the balcony. The room has a hushed silence in pure white repeated by the low, modern, king-sized bed appointed in white with a beige pillow. Above is a rectangular framed painting absent of bright color but for yellow. To perk up the room and accentuate the yellow, Corredor added a red swivel chair, which plays off of the hanging pendant lamps in red glass. “We are in Miami and with an all-white apartment, I had to bring back warmth and color,” she laughs. “Besides, the clients wanted something different from what they have in Barcelona. I made it refreshing and revitalizing.” The children’s room also has the water views and features a pair of Trundle beds with white side tables and lamps with glass shades on pedestals from WestElm. The walls are off white so the designer added a sassy green stripe to jazz it up. “This room is different from what you would expect,” says Corredor. “I wanted the stripe across the wall to add both color and design to the all-white room. People like color, and I love to integrate it into these wonderful water views.” She went for more outdoor colors on the balcony that wraps around the condo. Green bean bag chairs surround a modern resin coffee table with stained glass legs, continuing on the outside what she had accomplished inside. “We did quite a bit in a short amount of time, and it all blends to showcase the beauty of the water,” she says. It’s no secret that Corredor loves her work. To recreate such a bland space into a spectacular contemporary condo in less than a year is quite a task. But the clients gave her free reign to do her thing, and they have no regrets. “I feel exhilarated when I look at the finished product,” says Corredor. “I do every project with heart. But I feel especially proud of this one and am pleased with the materials we selected. In the end, it is all about the client’s happiness. Working with interior designer Hilary Scott, Mowlem & Co has created a stylish and sympathetic bespoke kitchen for a fascinating renovation and extension project. The impressive Victorian detached house has ‘an interesting planning history’ according to Hilary. Previously it had been bedsit accommodation with 27 units but in recent years it had become derelict and neglected, until was bought by a premiere league footballer with a view to restoring it to its former glory as a family home. Situated near the Botanic Gardens in Kew and in a conservation area, there was a significant investment and considerable planning negotiation to get it returned to a single dwelling. Hilary had worked closely with the client on previous projects and had their couple’s full trust to come up with a scheme that matched their tastes and needs. Many original features were restored or replaced to remain in keeping with the architecture, for example marble and cast iron fireplaces, panelling, cornices and architraves which were considered a key fabric of the building. The most contemporary element of the renovation is the striking double height glass extension to the rear in which the kitchen and living area are positioned. The room has wonderful views out to the garden is ideal both for family life and entertaining. The extension design involved an architect for the original plans and another to project-manage the build. Then Mowlem & Co were brought in because Hilary has worked with them for many years and says they were the natural choice to achieve the high quality of finish and bespoke joinery that was required. “They have done an amazing job,” says Hilary, “the design has certain quirky touches and an individual feel that you can only get with bespoke. All the timber has traditionally made dovetail joints and other handcrafted details. This is typical of Mowlem & Co’s work …they have a fantastic team and Julia Brown, who managed this project, is a great kitchen designer.” The kitchen has been conceived to match the contemporary feel of the new extension while also having a classic feel in terms of the finishes, such as the stained oak and exposed brickwork. The furniture has been made to bespoke proportions to match the scale of the double height extension, so that it fits the architecture. The look is clean and linear in feel and the design features specially created elements such as extra wide drawers and customised storage, and a separate walk-in pantry (plus a separate utility room in the basement). The furniture has been made in flat veneered stained oak and the seamless worktops are in Corian. Cooking appliances are by Wolf and refrigeration is by Sub-Zero. The exposed brick wall of the kitchen matches the external finishes of the brickwork of the house which can be seen through the glass extension. To harmonise, a thick glass shelf has been added, masterminded by Gary Craig of Architectural Metalworkers. This is supported by a cantilevered steel frame, so while it may look deceptively light and subtle, “a serious amount of engineering has gone into it,” according to Hilary. Mowlem & Co also created further bespoke furnishings and installations, for a dressing room plus bathrooms and cloakrooms in other parts of the house. The complexity of the project to restore the entire house took over a year to finish. As the client was transferred to another team before the renovation was complete, the property is now on the market for £9 million.

With older style properties built in a different era, significant building work must be undertaken to transform traditionally separated rooms into a free-flowing kitchen and dining space. The new-age, open plan style of living is what enticed these local clients into undertaking a vast renovation, which needless to say, undertook a vast number of trades, including our internal building work service which has been used to manipulate the existing space into the client’s vision. With a multi-functional design to fit the project brief, managing director Phil has created a fantastic design to fit the new space with additional functionality and visually appealing design inclusions. The Previous Kitchen The previous layout of the space was comprised of a separate kitchen and dining room space. To create the desired layout, the internal wall has been removed, with a door out to a conservatory blocked off and finished, alongside newly fitted French doors into a living room. Full plastering has been undertaken were necessary, with a boiler discretely integrated into a cupboard space, and new Honed Oyster Slate Karndean flooring fitted throughout the newly created space. Kitchen Furniture This furniture used for this project makes use of our newest kitchen supplier Bauformat. Bauformat are a German supplier known for their extensive choice and unique colourways, with the colours opted for playing a key part in this kitchen aesthetic. Another unique Bauformat inclusion in this kitchen is the inverted handleless rail system: CP35. The name of which comes from the 35° inverted integrated handle used to operate kitchen drawers and doors. To create bold contrast in this space two finishes have been used from the Porto S range, with both having used in the silky-matt finish that is again unique to a Bauformat kitchen. The Colourways Navy and Quartz Grey have been used and with the silky-matt finish of both doors, creating a theatrical looking space thanks to the richness of Navy units. The layout of this kitchen is simple, a U-shape run utilises most of the space, with a peninsula island creating casual dining space for three. A full height run of units is adjacent, which features the main bulk of appliances and pull-out pantry drawers for organised storage. Kitchen Appliances Matching the origin of the kitchen itself, German Neff appliances feature throughout this kitchen space. A superior specification of appliances has been used all-around to incorporate useful features unique to the Neff. In terms of cooking appliances, a Neff Slide & Hide oven and combination oven provide flexible cooking options alongside heaps of innovations that help to make cooking a simpler task. A Neff fridge-freezer is integrated seamlessly behind furniture doors for a seamless design, with useful features like Fresh Safe and Low Frost integrated to optimise food storage. A Neff Hob and built-in extractor feature in this kitchen, with a built-in extractor opted for to discretely fit within the theme of the wall units. Elsewhere, a Neff dishwasher is similarly integrated into Navy base units. Kitchen Accessories A major accessory of this kitchen is the tremendous work surfaces that features throughout the U-shape of the kitchen. These surfaces are from manufacturer Silestone and have been opted for in the neutral white Arabesque colourway. The worktops neatly complement and tie in the Navy and Quartz Grey furniture, whilst reflecting light around the room nicely. An accessory you can’t miss is the vibrant splashback provided by Southern Counties Glass. Again, this splashback complements the Navy furniture and provides a wipe-clean, easy-to-maintain surface. A Blanco 1.5 bowl composite sink has been included in the subtle Pearl Grey finish, with a chrome Sterling Nesso filtering tap fitted above. Lighting as always was a key consideration for this project. Pendant lights have been fitted in the kitchen and dining area, spotlights throughout the whole space and undercabinet lighting fitted beneath all wall units for ambient light. Plentiful storage has been well-placed throughout the space with extra-wide glass sided pan drawers adding vast storage and pull-out pantry storage fitted nicely within full-height units. Additional Bathroom Renovation In addition to the kitchen and dining area, these clients also opted for the renovation of a shower room at the same time, also designed by Phil. The space is maximised by placing the shower enclosure in the alcove of the room, with remaining space used for furniture, HiB illuminating mirror and W/C. The small amount of furniture is from supplier Saneux’s … range and features a … countertop basin and … tap. … Grey tiling has been used for most of the space in this room with reflective mosaic tilling used centrally in the shower enclosure as a neat design feature. … brassware has been used in the shower for dependability. Throughout the bathroom space, pipework has been boxed-in and tiled to keep the space looking unfussy and minimal.
