With no stairs and a built-in community condo buildings can be fabulous places to age-in-place. We renovated a high rise condo as the forever-home for our client with custom black walnut cabinetry and opulent dramatically veined stone. The bathroom integrates a grab bar in case it is ever needed.

All custom cabinetry and millwork fabricated and fitted by CFH. Mac Davis flooring provided this rustic white oak flooring with their custom Woodbury finish. We love how it compliments our reclaimed chestnut cabinetry and millwork within the home.

The lower-level kitchen is simple and elegant with natural wood cabinets, black pulls, a white quartz countertop, and three windows on the sink wall overlooking the city of Portland.

Compact kitchen in the Caretakers Apartment complete with 24" glass top GE Electric Free-Standing Range and 24" LG Fridge and Freezer Combo (not shown). Red painted shaker cabinets, with white glass knobs and Pental Quartz countertops and 4" blacksplash in "Polished Cashmere". Kohler stainless steel single bowl sink, top mounted, with Kohler Simplice faucet in vibrant stainless. Wall mounted sconce above the sink is Shades of Sleek Contemporary bath light in rubbed bronze. Walls are Sherwin Willams "White Heron Stain", baseboards, window sills and beams are hemlock in Wurth "Morgeau" stain. Flooring is Cathedral Plank in "Gold Coast Oak." Tongue and groove ceiling is rough sawn fir and spruce. Floating shelves on sink wall use floating shelve brackets and are finished in the same wood at the exposed beams.

DESIGN BRIEF “A family home to be lived in not just looked at” placed functionality as main priority in the extensive renovation of this coastal holiday home. Existing layout featured: – Inadequate bench space in the cooking zone – An impractical and overly large walk in pantry – Torturous angles in the design of the house made work zones cramped with a frenetic aesthetic at odds with the linear skylights creating disharmony and an unbalanced feel to the entire space. – Unappealing seating zones, not utilising the amazing view or north face space WISH LIST – Comfortable retreat for two people and extend family, with space for multiple cooks to work in the kitchen together or to a functional work zone for a couple. DESIGN SOLUTION – Removal of awkward angle walls creating more space for a larger kitchen – External angles which couldn’t be modified are hidden, creating a rational, serene space where the skylights run parallel to walls and fittings. NEW KITCHEN FEATURES – A highly functional layout with well-defined and spacious cooking, preparing and storage zones. – Generous bench space around cooktop and sink provide great workability in a small space – An inviting island bench for relaxing, working and entertaining for one or many cooks – A light filled interior with ocean views from several vantage points in the kitchen – An appliance/pantry with sliding for easy access to plentiful storage and hidden appliance use to keep the kitchen streamlined and easy to keep tidy. – A light filled interior with ocean views from several vantage points in the kitchen – Refined aesthetics which welcomes, relax and allows for individuality with warm timber open shelves curate collections that make the space feel like it’s a home always on holidays.

Handleless and effortlessly chic, this kitchen is a testament to the seamless union of aesthetics and practicality. Each detail is meticulously crafted to create a harmonious culinary space. Equipped with top-of-the-line Siemens ovens, this kitchen boasts cutting-edge technology to elevate our client’s cooking experience to a new level. We also understand that storage is key to a functional kitchen, and we’ve found the perfect balance in this masterpiece. We used a combination of open and closed storage to ensure the essentials are always within reach, while maintaining a clutter-free and organised workspace. But it doesn’t stop there. We maximised the use of large glass doors that open to the garden, inviting natural light to dance across the space and creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. Adding a touch of artistic flair, we’ve incorporated colourful glass transoms into the design, infusing the space with a playful yet sophisticated charm. The brief for this unique kitchen was for it to be ‘a huge piece of furniture’. Well….. challenge accepted. To achieve this goal, we knew that we needed to approach the design from the details outwards, so we started with the cabinet doors. As the kitchen was to be over three levels rather than the traditional two, and because we wanted to articulate the idea of ‘furniture’ rather than ‘kitchen cabinets’, we designed three complimentary cabinet doors, each with their own personalities. Door pulls and pan hooks were made from beautiful hexagonal brass rods, and drawers were lined for cutlery, utensils and cookware. A slim shelf above the splashback provided a place for kitchen essentials like salt and oil. The mid-level of the kitchen was kept clean and uncluttered by means of our signature F+B ‘School House’ off-white lacquer, so that the wood didn’t feel overpowering. But the main event is the truss shelf that spans the open side of the kitchen like a portal frame. This beautifully detailed piece of Japanese-inspired design gives space for the client’s collection of Asian ceramics, and for our bespoke Japanese shoji paper lanterns, which light the space. A unique kitchen, handmade like only a furniture maker could.

In this kitchen, we wanted to tie in the classic black and white palette to the homes character. To do so, the home's original molding details were recreated throughout crown molding and doorways. We incorporated brushed brass and matte black hardware, as well as sand-in-place oak flooring. Our client wanted to continue her tradition of giving her grandchildren weekly gourmet cooking and baking lessons. A paneled refrigerator was designed into the back nook of the kitchen, opening up treasured countertop space for cooking, prepping, and gourmet baked-good preparation. The lowered countertop area create an ideal baking station. To make use of the countertop space, we installed a large 3' galley workstation with dry dock. An elegant gloss black and brass range ties into the classic charm of this 1910's bungalow. The adjacent dining nook is the perfect place for morning coffee and a fresh baked croissant.
