This Woodways contemporary kitchen utilizes a mix of materials to add depth and warmth to the space. The high contrast between the dark cabinetry and bright white backsplash and counter draw emphasis to this area. Undercabinet lighting is added for better visibility when using this space for tasks.

This kitchen renovation was part of a larger, extensive interior renovation for an existing penthouse condominium residence, located in Clayton, Missouri. The primary concept for the overall renovation was to bring architectural continuity throughout the entire residence with an edited materials palette that serves as a neutral backdrop for the owners’ extensive art collection. For the kitchen area specifically, dark flooring comprised of large-format Italian porcelain tiles is contrasted with high-gloss white cabinetry at the kitchen’s perimeter and gray-stained reconstituted veneer wrapping the island cabinetry. This neutral palette of white and gray is further enhanced with quartz countertops that include dramatic, gray veining. The custom banquette seating with built-in storage, activates the north wall of the kitchen and serves as an anchor for a new dining table and chairs. A contrasting blue velvet textile softens the built-in banquette, and provides a restrained field of color. The gray wood veneer is echoed at custom wall panels behind the banquette, serving as a textural backdrop for artwork installation. And a light, feathery chandelier hangs above the dining table with intention in mind to not obstruct views of the artwork beyond. ©Alise O'Brien Photography

This 1990's home, located in North Vancouver's Lynn Valley neighbourhood, had high ceilings and a great open plan layout but the decor was straight out of the 90's complete with sponge painted walls in dark earth tones. The owners, a young professional couple, enlisted our help to take it from dated and dreary to modern and bright. We started by removing details like chair rails and crown mouldings, that did not suit the modern architectural lines of the home. We replaced the heavily worn wood floors with a new high end, light coloured, wood-look laminate that will withstand the wear and tear from their two energetic golden retrievers. Since the main living space is completely open plan it was important that we work with simple consistent finishes for a clean modern look. The all white kitchen features flat doors with minimal hardware and a solid surface marble-look countertop and backsplash. We modernized all of the lighting and updated the bathrooms and master bedroom as well. The only departure from our clean modern scheme is found in the dressing room where the client was looking for a more dressed up feminine feel but we kept a thread of grey consistent even in this more vivid colour scheme. This transformation, featuring the clients' gorgeous original artwork and new custom designed furnishings is admittedly one of our favourite projects to date!

To add warmth, we have incorporated a solid oak breakfast bar and shelves, seamlessly integrating nature’s beauty into our client’s daily routines. Equipped with NEFF and AEG appliances, this modern kitchen is designed to make every culinary activity effortless. Cooking, baking and mealtime prep have never been this efficient. The elevated setting of the bulthaup kitchen overlooking the connected soft seating and dining allows conversation to effortlessly flow. While keeping in mind the limitations of the customer, but also their needs, we managed to recreate their space with custom cabinets in a soft gray with trim to match. The quartz countertops and backsplash brought in the existing tile floor finish that was to remain.

This project was so much fun! The kitchen originally stopped where the glass window areas start and it was a crowded dining area full of items that didn't have a place to be stored in the smaller kitchen. This kitchen's color palette and textures perfectly blend farmhouse and modern styles. The hood's light wood paneling is a typical feature of a country-style kitchen, and its matching shelves and quartz backsplash beautifully enhance the design. The black kitchen island features paneling on the sides, as well as sleek satin cabinets, adding a touch of modernity to the design. The cream cabinets and matte black handles further complement the overall aesthetic. The wood-effect tiling on the floor and the beam on the ceiling both add a rustic touch to the space. The dining area features a modern touch with a glass table that offers a clear view of the stunning custom-made burnt orange bench, which comfortably accommodates the entire family.
