When Von Tobel Michigan City designer Savanah Ruoff’s clients needed help with new kitchen cabinets, she definitely answered the call! This award-worthy kitchen features Kemper Choice cabinets in Justin with a Maritime finish, quartz countertops & backsplash, and an undermount sink. The new open-plan kitchen and living room have a sloped roof extension with skylights and large bi-folding doors. We designed the kitchen bespoke to our client's individual requirements with 6 seats at a large double sides island, a large corner pantry unit and a hot water tap. Off this space, there is also a utility room. The seating area has a three-seater and a two-seater sofa which both recline. There is also still space to add a dining table if the client wishes in the future.

Get the look: B I R D by architect Andrew Heathfield of MINOH is unique in color and holds delicate features. The base cabinets are available in a shaker, slab, or beaded style navy blue, with oil-rubbed bronze hardware. Countertops take either a dark or light approach, with walnut or maple accents respectively. Concrete floors, stainless steel plumbing fixtures and contemporary lighting fixtures complete the truly versatile B I R D template. Options for integrated appliances and multiple backsplash options add to this design’s overall flexibility and character.

An overview of the kitchen, for a sense of the full layout. The walls of the dining room beyond are painted the same colour as the kitchen cabinets -- Benjamin Moore's Hale Navy. The peninsula in the foreground provides not only additional workspace, but is a full-sized eating counter accommodating 4. To make it feel special, we changed the counter material from white engineered quartz to a blue/ grey natural quartzite, whose brown veins pick up on the walnut tones of the shelves and range hood. We further highlighted the stone's warm notes by choosing a rich cognac colour for the stools.

The clean-up and prep zone flows into the eating area, with shallower lower cabinets easing the transition and making room for the stools to pull out. The shallow cabinets are ideal for storing the daughter's homework and crafting supplies out of sight. To make the peninsula feel special, we changed the counter material from white engineered quartz to a blue/ grey natural quartzite, flowing down in a graceful waterfall. The stone's brown veins pick up on the walnut tones of the shelves and range hood, as do cognac stools. A slim inset of brushed brass near the top of the cabinets adds a luxe detail. Slim brushed gold hardware echoes the pinstripe.

After removing the wall between the dinging and kitchen as well as the wall separating the living room we installed new blue shaker cabinets with a beautiful quartz top. We added a wine fridge to the new island as well as a 2 side over hang. We continued the quartz up the wall as the backsplash for the kitchen

We created this Kitchen/family/dining extension to this Listed building along with subtle enhancements to bring out the character of the property. Landscaping works were designed in house.
