A contemporary kitchen with beautiful navy blue cabinetry makes this space stand out from the rest! A textured backsplash adds texture to the space and beautifully compliments the dimensional granite. Stainless steel appliances and and cabinet pulls are the perfect choice to not over power the navy cabinetry. The light laminate floors adds a natural and coastal feel to the room.

Once a finishing school for girls this expansive Victorian had a kitchen in desperate need of updating. The new owners wanted something cheerful, that picked up on the details of the original home, and yet they wanted it to honor their more modern lifestyle.

Meal preparation & clean-up is a group activity for this family of 5, and full days are spent baking, cooking & canning together. They needed more functional storage and wished for a spacious and beautiful place to congregate and work seamlessly together. The peninsula and non-structural arch that divided the kitchen from the family room were removed in order to create a large open area. Also removed were the dated soffits which instantly created the feeling of higher ceilings and allowed a feature wall of beautiful encaustic tiles to run all the way up behind the custom plaster hood. Turning and positioning the new island along the width of the window wall gave the family twice as much counter space and seating. The space that was once a hallway became the perfect place to position a dining table. The new 8' window washes the space in an abundance of inviting natural daylight, showcasing views to the greenbelt adjacent to their property. The hand distressed hickory cabinet run - custom designed to house a 5' Galley Workstation - has a furniture feel and its own distinctive hardware. Classic patterned encaustic tiles and favorite colors were incorporated to reflect the family's preferences for a modern Spanish colonial feel. Like most kitchens, this basement bar kitchenette was all about the materials. Making the right selections is critical to a project's success, especially a kitchen, so how does that work? To make sure we get the selections right, we follow a plan, or more accurately, a selection sequence, that ensures we make the right selections in the right order. ​ For kitchens and bathrooms, material selections follow a simple cadence - one, two, three. First countertops and tile, then plumbing fixtures, and, finally, hardware and accessories. So, why countertops and tile first? ​Simple, they have the greatest impact on the look, color, and mood of a room, and, much like the foundation, they are critical to the stability of a house. Selecting the right countertops (and corresponding tile) is critical to the aesthetic stability of a space. ​In our three step process, the selection of countertops is intricately linked to the selection of tile. Yes, we begin with the countertops, but tile selection is only a half step behind. The two materials work in tandem given their proximity to each other ( often they actually touch each other). Another consideration is selection flexibility. There are literally hundreds of thousands of tile options, making it easier to find the right tile to match the chosen countertops than it is to find countertops to match a specific tile. To the cool and creamy quartzite countertop, we added a dark, rich counterpart - walnut. The elevated countertop, the one where friends sit and upon which drinks are set is warm and welcoming.

What had been a wonderful new construction project got even better when learned that the homeowner wanted to build a contemporary bar - kind of like a kitchen, actually - with stone countertops, high-end appliances, and beautiful tile and custom cabinets in the basement. It's a unique project in that it is not fully a kitchen [there's only a beverage fridge, drawer microwave, ice maker, and dishwasher, but no oven], and it's more than a simple bar as it accommodates food preparation or a catering service. For the homeowner, who is a huge Vikings fan and entertains large groups of sports-loving fans, the perfect project was a full bar/kitchenette that would serve as the ideal place for friends to gather, eat and drink.!

This open, brick and beam loft space featured earthy and textured surfaces – in a very mid-90s setting. We embraced the brick and incorporated a mixture of warm materials including oil-rubbed bronze, ebonized walnut and wide-board, bleached-oak flooring. A gorgeous kitchen remodeled from a builder’s basic, incorporating a palette of bright blue, soft grey and pops of warm copper. As a multi-generational home, it was really important to create smooth transitions, allowing ease of accessibility, and the client’s favourite colour, blue! We started, with removing a wall in the kitchen, that opened up the space to the much-used family room. We created an island with overhang for conversations with the cook, and a rest stop for Grandma. As all three adults have different dietary demands, a set of wall ovens was added, and a commercial grade range hood for lots of yummy food prep. Additional functional design features a new built-in buffet with storage, and a window bench seat. By adding a pendant light over the kitchen table, along with the beautiful big window, this space has been lovingly updated, showcasing the family’s personality and has now earned the most popular spot in the house.
