An open house lot is like a blank canvas. When Mathew first visited the wooded lot where this home would ultimately be built, the landscape spoke to him clearly. Standing with the homeowner, it took Mathew only twenty minutes to produce an initial color sketch that captured his vision - a long, circular driveway and a home with many gables set at a picturesque angle that complemented the contours of the lot perfectly. The interior was designed using a modern mix of architectural styles – a dash of craftsman combined with some colonial elements – to create a sophisticated yet truly comfortable home that would never look or feel ostentatious. Features include a bright, open study off the entry. This office space is flanked on two sides by walls of expansive windows and provides a view out to the driveway and the woods beyond. There is also a contemporary, two-story great room with a see-through fireplace. This space is the heart of the home and provides a gracious transition, through two sets of double French doors, to a four-season porch located in the landscape of the rear yard. This Craftsman style house went from 1950s split-level to contemporary design featuring a large family room with oak truss ceiling, outdoor decks and a walk-out basement. We used most of the existing foundation and first-floor perimeter walls and embraced the narrow, deep lot. This was a Design Build speculative house that started a trend of upgrading the entire street.

In this 1929 home, we opened the small kitchen doorway into a large curved archway, bringing the dining room and kitchen together. Hand-made Motawi Arts and Crafts backsplash tiles, oak hardwood floors, and quarter-sawn oak cabinets matching the existing millwork create an authentic period look for the kitchen. A new Marvin window and enhanced cellulose insulation make the space more comfortable and energy efficient. In the all new second floor bathroom, the period was maintained with hexagonal floor tile, subway tile wainscot, a clawfoot tub and period-style fixtures. The window is Marvin Ultrex which is impervious to bathroom humidity.

This 7-bed 5-bath Wyoming ski home follows strict subdivision-mandated style, but distinguishes itself through a refined approach to detailing. The result is a clean-lined version of the archetypal rustic mountain home, with a connection to the European ski chalet as well as to traditional American lodge and mountain architecture. It’s a great stone. Geologically it does have some calcium carbonate & thus is a marble. A very hard marble. Even so, we have never noticed it etch, but since there’s some calcium carbonate we call it what it is – marble. Some marbles are much harder than others, and the same goes for quartzite. Geologically speaking, it contains the mineral calcium carbonate, which is a defining feature of marble. However, it’s an extremely hard marble with a very low risk of etching or staining. In other words, it behaves like a quartzite. You can only really be sure you are getting a hard or soft marble by going to a reputable stone supplier. We are the ones importing the stone directly and are knowledgeable about where the stone is coming from and what minerals it contains. We like all of our stones and we want you to be happy with the long term final outcome of your project!

The rear of this 1848 Italianate farmhouse was renovated in 2018 to expand the kitchen. The kitchen design was inspired by the Matisse painting “The Red Room”, a favorite of the homeowners, with its color palate and patterned wallpaper. The homeowners love to cook and designed the kitchen to maximize function and remain true to the period elements of the home, while taking their family’s needs into consideration. They added a command center, charging station, lots of counter/ storage space and a custom hutch with a butcher block counter to use as a baking station. The Kitchen cabinets feature Cherry, Crystal Cabinet Works, Inset, Framed Cabinetry with Breezewood Stain. The perimeter cabinets feature Green Soapstone with a full height backsplash behind the range.
