This recent remodel was a full gut down to the stubs and sub floors. The biggest challenge in the space was creating a single room from 2 separate areas. The original galley kitchen and a 1980’s add-on breakfast room. The breakfast room was cold and had old mechanicals emphasizing the need for a continuous space. The existing kitchen area was small, cramped and did not fit the lifestyle of the homeowners. The homeowners wanted a hidden pantry for large and seasonal items as well as for food storage. I planned for a portion of the garage to be transformed to a full size, walk-in, hidden pantry that catered to the needs of the family. Three of the most important design features include the hidden pantry, “other room” storage such as the mudroom seat and window bench, as well as the eat-in counter. Other notable design elements include glass cabinets, under-cabinet lighting, a message center and built-in under the counter appliances. The coffee system is plumbed allowing for immediate hot coffee and specialty drinks at the touch of a button. Dimensions: 27’X12’ Cabinetry: KEMPER Flooring: MAPLE HARDWOOD with Radiant floor heat. MA Peterson www.mapeterson.com Since the kitchen is north facing, we opened up the adjoining south facing dining room to let natural southern light spill through both rooms. This new source of light added much needed warmth and brightness. A beamed ceiling in the renovated dining room gave it a distinctive, purposeful look. Custom made cabinetry added functional design to each room, decorative glass above a kitchen work desk helped that space feel warm and distinct within the kitchen area itself.With new sources of natural light, a darker island kitchen provided the perfect anchor and focal point. A coffer ceiling and white enamel cabinets surrounded this hard working space for food prep or entertaining.

Moving into the kitchen there is a continuation of the detailed, custom woodwork in the cabinets. The soft muted blue of the island is a great Tudor style addition. The French influence can be seen in the light fixture and the painted wood ceiling.

This house was new to the homeowner. Due to the dated, nonfunctional kitchen space, it was necessary to update the space to match their style. Creating this bright, modern farmhouse kitchen was the ideal update that was important. As well as using a white cabinet/ with a pop of color and, of course, functional cabinets for better use of the space.

The client wanted to create an elegant, upscale kosher kitchen with double cooking and cleaning areas. The custom cabinets are frameless, captured inset, and painted, with walnut drawer boxes. The refrigerator and matching buffets are also walnut. The main stove was custom painted as well as the hood and adjacent cabinets as a focal point. Brass faucets, hardware, mesh screens and hood trim add to the elegance. The ceiling treatment over the island and eating area combine wood details and wallpaper to complete the look. We continued this theme throughout the house.
