This bright open-planed kitchen uses a smart mix of materials to achieve a contemporary classic look. Neolith Estatuario porcelain tiles has been used for the worktop and kitchen island, providing durability and a cost effective alternative to real marble. A built in sink and a single adjustable barazza tap maintains a minimal look. Matt Lacquered cabinetry provides a subtle contrast whilst wooden effect laminate carcass and shelving breaks up the look. DOWNLOAD NOW   The homeowners of this mid-century Colonial and family of four were frustrated with the layout of their existing kitchen which was a small, narrow peninsula layout but that was adjoining a large space that they could not figure out how to use. Stealing part of the unused space seemed like an easy solution, except that there was an existing transition in floor height which made that a bit tricky. The solution of bringing the floor height up to meet the height of the existing kitchen allowed us to do just that. This solution also offered some challenges. The exterior door had to be raised which resulted in some exterior rework, and the floor transition had to happen somewhere to get out to the garage, so we ended up “pushing” it towards what is now a new mudroom and powder room area. This solution allows for a small but functional and hidden mudroom area and more private powder room situation. Another challenge of the design was the very narrow space. To minimize issues with this, we moved the location of the refrigerator into the newly found space which gave us an L-shaped layout allowing for an island and even some shallow pantry storage. The windows over the kitchen sink were expanded in size and relocated to allow more light into the room. A breakfast table fits perfectly in the area adjacent to the existing French doors and there was even room for a small bar area that helps transition from inside to outside for entertaining. The confusing unused space now makes sense and provides functionality on a daily basis. To help bring some calm to this busy family, a pallet of soft neutrals was chosen -- gray glass tile with a simple metal accent strip, clear modern pendant lights and a neutral color scheme for cabinetry and countertops. Conceived as a remodel and addition, the final design iteration for this home is uniquely multifaceted. Structural considerations required a more extensive tear down, however the clients wanted the entire remodel design kept intact, essentially recreating much of the existing home. The overall floor plan design centers on maximizing the views, while extensive glazing is carefully placed to frame and enhance them. The residence opens up to the outdoor living and views from multiple spaces and visually connects interior spaces in the inner court. The client, who also specializes in residential interiors, had a vision of ‘transitional’ style for the home, marrying clean and contemporary elements with touches of antique charm. Energy efficient materials along with reclaimed architectural wood details were seamlessly integrated, adding sustainable design elements to this transitional design. Notable design elements for the kitchen include the wood ceiling, custom designed hood by TZS, oversized island and built-in breakfast nook. The floor is porcelain tile, counters are marble looking quartz. The island and hood feature polished nickel metal accent metal trim. The breakfast nook features a built in banquette. This is a great way to save space to create a fun unique space in the room. The banquette uses a Crypton protected fabric so any spills area easy to clean.

Beautiful "Transitional" kitchen design using a painted white raised panel door for the kitchen, with a distressed black kitchen island. The counter tops are also 2 toned to stay consistent with the look. We used 2 different quartz materials to achieve the look. A simple black for the kitchen and a marble look for the island. The floors are and engineered hardwood and the backsplash is a light gray glass 4x8 subway tile. For three years this Westlake Village couple lived in a house that didn't quite fit their needs. With frequent houseguests staying for weeks at a time, the family needed more space, particularly in the cramped kitchen. So began their search for a new home. Though the couple viewed several residences, they realized nothing compared to the space and location of the house they already owned. The family knew JRP by reputation from friends who were JRP clients. After consulting with our team, the couple agreed a whole-home renovation was the way to the dream home they had been searching for.
