The warm tones of the cabinetry inspired the use of wood place settings, and warm metals in the accessories. The star in this space is the view, so a subtle, clean-line approach was the perfect kitchen design for this client. The spacious island invites guests and cooks alike. The inclusion of a handy 'home admin' area is a great addition for clients with busy work/home commitments. The combined laundry and butler's pantry is a much used area by these clients, who like to entertain on a regular basis. Plenty of storage adds to the functionality of the space. The TV Unit was a must have, as it enables perfect use of space, and placement of components, such as the TV and fireplace. The small bathroom was cleverly designed to make it appear as spacious as possible. A subtle colour palette was a clear choice.

Fusion of styles and shapes with TELERA… versions WHITE ASH, LIGHT WALNUT and COFFEE. This is an innovative and ecological model, characterized by MDF doors with plastic coating in Alkorcell, a new generation non-toxic material, odorless and tasteless, safe to use in cooking. As you can see, TELERA has a very multifaceted personality, allowing the realization of eclectic matchings, ranging from retrò to post modern. In other words, TELERA makes vanity an art to exhibit. Finally, of absolute value the compositions based on 6 cm thick worktops with ABS edge light walnut and vulcanic.

The modern direction given, really opened up the use of line, form, shape and weight. All of these design elements being very strong, were softened by the use of an organic colour scheme. This was especially important as the house had such a strong connection with neighbouring national park. The highlight window heavily dictated the strong use of horizontal lines in the kitchen. This was achieved through the use of Blum Aventos HK lift ups, wide drawers and running the timber grain horizontally. The double layered wall cabinetry above the cooktop, at different depths added shape and form to this long run of cabinetry. Shape and form was also strongly considered when designing the kitchen island. The client’s decision to restrict the kitchen size to allow for a separate casual eating area meant that the kitchen island could become the kitchen show piece. The intent was for the island to be a piece of art, sculptural in form and weight. The box details at each end of the island with the shadow-line running through to match the drawers on the back of the island added another visual dimension. The decision to increase the kickboard set back finally gave the island a weightlessness which it needed to balance out its large scale.

A couple was looking to move downtown to a pied-a-terre where they could live and work amidst their large collection of African art. In the end, they purchased 3,600 sf of raw space at Locust Walk at Washington Square, a historic turn of the century, five-story building located in the Society Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia. The rectangular space has large numbers of windows on two exposures, and a linear scheme was developed. All walls and built-ins were pulled away from the exterior walls, providing for an open vista along the full extent along the exterior face. By not breaking the apartment down into smaller enclosed rooms, the full breadth of the space can be taken in and experienced. A half-round gallery space greets visitors as one moves through the entry. At this point, public spaces extend in one direction, and more private spaces, including a large home office and the master suite extend in the other direction. In order to best display the sculptural artwork, the spaces were conceived of a clean, drywall boxes. The existing heavy timber structure and steel frame was encased in drywall as well, creating a quiet backdrop to the real star - the beloved art that fills this apartment's every room. Simple but elegant, this kitchen uses colour blocking techniques to achieve this look, with the splashback merging the contrasting colours. Hidden from view is an undermount rangehood, integrated dishwasher as well as an integrated bin. Not only does the kitchen use different colours as well as matt and gloss finishes, it also has four different textures, from the smooth glass, stone and gloss surfaces to the textured woodgrain back cabinets!
