The concept of a modern design was created through the use of two-toned acrylic Grabill cabinets, stainless appliances, quartz countertops and a glass tile backsplash. The simple stainless hood installed in front of large format Porcelanosa tile creates a striking focal point, while a monochromatic color palette of grays and whites achieve the feel of a cohesive and airy space. Additionally, ample amounts of artificial light, was designed to keep this kitchen bright and inviting.

By raising the ceiling in this newly remodeled kitchen, the space simply opened up. The large island is able to accommodate conversational seating to be near the cook, but does not interrupt the traffic path to the cooktop, sink, and refrigerator. White painted periphery cabinets with a rich countertop creates a larger outline, while the dark stained island cabinets and lighter countertop grounds the center of the space. Beautiful veined tile adds depth and interest to the solid surfaces. On the opposite side of the island, the open space allowed for a dog feeding station to be imbedded.

This recent remodel was a full gut down to the stubs and sub floors. The biggest challenge in the space was creating a single room from 2 separate areas. The original galley kitchen and a 1980’s add-on breakfast room. The breakfast room was cold and had old mechanicals emphasizing the need for a continuous space. The existing kitchen area was small, cramped and did not fit the lifestyle of the homeowners. The homeowners wanted a hidden pantry for large and seasonal items as well as for food storage. I planned for a portion of the garage to be transformed to a full size, walk-in, hidden pantry that catered to the needs of the family. Three of the most important design features include the hidden pantry, “other room” storage such as the mudroom seat and window bench, as well as the eat-in counter. Other notable design elements include glass cabinets, under-cabinet lighting, a message center and built-in under the counter appliances. This house built in the 1970s was feeling cut off and dated for these homeowners. They had a cramped kitchen and a dining space they weren't using. We tore down the walls and the old kitchen and went all new with this remodel. We installed light white cabinets and created much more counter space for cooking. All new appliances and even a bakers countertop set at the perfect height for rolling pie crusts make this kitchen truly custom and special. This kitchen renovation was really marked by transforming the space as much as replacing the cabinets and appliances. Originally the kitchen cabinets ran all the way to the back of what now is the pantry, creating a very awkward dead end. By creating the pantry, we added a great deal of storage and were able to make this layout less like an abyss. We also used lighter cabinets and better lighting to make the space feel more elegant and open.

This craftsman style kitchen remodel is surrounded by white Starmark cabinets with Richelieu pulls, accented with Starmark cabinets with a nutmeg stain. The BD Manhattan grey subway tiles fill the backsplash against the light granite countertop. The stainless steel appliances complete this clean, craftsman style kitchen.
