Transitional Kitchen and Sunroom Addition in Lafayette
Transitional Kitchen and Sunroom Addition in Lafayette
Riverside Construction, LLCRiverside Construction, LLC
Riverside Construction started by removing the bulkhead and pony wall to create a functional U- Shape kitchen and relocating the sink below the window. Next, they replaced the dated cabinets with shaker-style Wellborn Select Series cabinetry in Hancock MDF. These fresh, modern upper and lower cabinets were finished in two colors, Willow and Glacier. Visual interest was added to the kitchen by designing glass cabinet doors on either side of the sink. New Carrara Mist Quartz countertops and a glass ceramic tile backsplash installed in a brick lay pattern completed the look. Other highlights included luxury vinyl Andover Bayhill Blonde plank flooring for easy cleaning, under cabinet lighting, and a semi-flush drum lighting fixture by Livex Lighting.

As cherry continues to make a comeback, we show how classic is far from a dirty word. This kitchen used to be closed off and non-functional. With the help of our award-winning designer, Tracy West, it is now open, and has the perfect work triangle. By removing the wall that previously separated the kitchen and breakfast nook, the homeowners were able to relocate their refrigerator and add an island. The natural tones and textures in this kitchen make it feel inviting and clean and demonstrate that cherry can still add personality and dimension in a completely updated (and still timeless) way. The island was designed to feel like furniture in this compact, narrow space. 2 stools for enjoying a coffee while looking out the sink window. Upper cabinets and wall paint were done in a creamy white paint to lighten the space. Rustic wood cabinets create texture and a connection to nature. Craftsman hardware and a black hood modernize this bungalow while natural colored ceramics like the backsplash tile and pendant lights bring the boho vibe. Adornments are all plants in this Biophilic design.

Among the new surfaces are shaker style cherry cabinets with a clear finish, soft closing doors & drawers, and furniture grade domestic maple interiors. The cabinetry was trimmed and carefully installed by our CRC artisans and made by Signature Cabinetry & Design. The countertops are a gorgeous cut of Crema Bordeaux granite slab, fabricated and installed by Marble Fino. The appliances are beautiful KitchenAid stainless steel models the homeowner purchased from Pearson's Appliance, and installed by us. The floor is a new wood look vinyl product by DuChateau Floors called Vinyl Deluxe recommended by Jim Pitcher, Owner of CRC. This is not your mother's vinyl floor! This is cutting edge technology. Can you tell the difference? There are astonishingly similar alternatives to hardwood flooring available today. Banned from kitchens and bathrooms no more! You too can have the look of hardwood without the drawbacks of wood products in wet and high traffic areas. Lighting in the kitchen was enhanced by LED ceiling can lights and under cabinet LED strip lights. Notice there are no visible outlets interrupting the backsplash. We tucked outlets under the upper cabinets giving plenty of power where the homeowner needs it without the outlets being visible. Little details make a big difference.

These clients requested a "homey" and earthy feel and design for their space. We decided to take inspiration from their gorgeous backyard and did a two-tone cabinetry look with stained alder shaker cabinets and white uppers to lighten and brighten. We did a large herringbone tile that offers a neutral yet warm color that coincides with the LVT floor with a richer undertone to hide all the things! And lastly, we opened up the space between the kitchen and breezy way for a comfortable place to entertain and we elevated their spaces to make everything feel larger.

When you find a home that meets most of your needs in a neighborhood you love, remodeling to make it more suitable for your family’s lifestyle can make that house your dream home. That’s what happened in this remodeling story. Our clients purchased a home built in 1983 with the plan to remodel the kitchen to suit their needs and tastes. The galley style kitchen was positioned at the center and rear of the main level and had an eat-in area at one end and a pantry at the opposite end. A small pass-through allowed view into the adjacent family room, but otherwise the two spaces were closed off from one another. The existing espresso stained cabinetry was attractive, but it darkened and narrowed the kitchen. The homeowners wanted the kitchen to feel more connected to the other main level living spaces. Creating more light and improving organization and storage were must haves for the new design. They also requested relocating the pantry from under the stairs and longed for a ventilation system that would vent the cooking smells outdoors rather than throughout the inside of the house. Our design involved removing a portion of wall between the kitchen and living room. This one change made it feel larger, more open and bright. It also connected the kitchen to the living room and allowed the two spaces to flow freely into one another. This new open area allowed us to extend the granite countertop to create a peninsula/bar that provides additional seating. To improve the existing lighting plan, we added new LED recessed lights, under-cabinet lighting, and pendant lighting over the peninsula. The selections were integral in making the kitchen feel lighter and larger. Our clients chose maple cabinetry with an oak stained tumbleweed finish paired with creamy granite countertops, and a pearl tumbled travertine backsplash. A few standout features include a set of floating shelves, concrete farmhouse sink, and mercury glass pendant lights. Flooring throughout the first floor was updated to an easy to maintain wood-look vinyl plank floor. Several new storage options were added including new cabinetry where the old pantry used to be, which accommodates the microwave in an upper cabinet as well as storage for small cooking appliances so they don’t take up space on the counters. There’s also a unique angled cabinet right next to the refrigerator. When the work was complete on this project we were very pleased that the design delivered exactly what the homeowners had envisioned. In addition, we were able to complete the construction without causing too much disturbance or disruption for the homeowners; one works the night shift, and was actually able to sleep during the day, and the other travels frequently for work and felt confident that the project was in good hands.
