The kitchen has Waypoint cabinetry with Cambria Brittanicca Gold Quartz countertops. The backsplash is CTI Marlow 3x12 natural stone tile in Desert color with decorative glass accents. A Blanco granite undermount sink in Biscotti color with Voss pullout kitchen faucet.

This home in the Portland hills was stuck in the 70's with cedar paneling and almond laminate cabinets with oak details. (See Before photos) The space had wonderful potential with a high vaulted ceiling that was covered by a low ceiling in the kitchen and dining room. Walls closed in the kitchen. The remodel began with removal of the ceiling and the wall between the kitchen and the dining room. Hardwood flooring was extended into the kitchen. Shaker cabinets with contemporary hardware, modern pendants and clean-lined backsplash tile make this kitchen fit the transitional style the owners wanted. Now, the light and backdrop of beautiful trees are enjoyed from every room.

The cabinets we used in this warm and welcoming kitchen are our DeWils Millsboro Cherry line in Cinnamon. They paired beautifully with cream Granite counter tops in Bordeaux. A beautiful back splash with slate accents enhances the kitchen with special border detail at the stove. We also added under cabinet lights, above cabinet lighting, and replaced the window over sink completing this gorgeous kitchen.

The design of this home was driven by the owners’ desire for a three-bedroom waterfront home that showcased the spectacular views and park-like setting. As nature lovers, they wanted their home to be organic, minimize any environmental impact on the sensitive site and embrace nature. This unique home is sited on a high ridge with a 45° slope to the water on the right and a deep ravine on the left. The five-acre site is completely wooded and tree preservation was a major emphasis. Very few trees were removed and special care was taken to protect the trees and environment throughout the project. To further minimize disturbance, grades were not changed and the home was designed to take full advantage of the site’s natural topography. Oak from the home site was re-purposed for the mantle, powder room counter and select furniture. The visually powerful twin pavilions were born from the need for level ground and parking on an otherwise challenging site. Fill dirt excavated from the main home provided the foundation. All structures are anchored with a natural stone base and exterior materials include timber framing, fir ceilings, shingle siding, a partial metal roof and corten steel walls. Stone, wood, metal and glass transition the exterior to the interior and large wood windows flood the home with light and showcase the setting. Interior finishes include reclaimed heart pine floors, Douglas fir trim, dry-stacked stone, rustic cherry cabinets and soapstone counters. Exterior spaces include a timber-framed porch, stone patio with fire pit and commanding views of the Occoquan reservoir. A second porch overlooks the ravine and a breezeway connects the garage to the home. Numerous energy-saving features have been incorporated, including LED lighting, on-demand gas water heating and special insulation. Smart technology helps manage and control the entire house. Featuring a fresh view of the new pantry wall, kitchen table, and food preparation area. The pantry wall provides much needed storage and a convenient staging area for storing groceries. The custom 36" x 48" table and chairs was created when the homeowner couldn't find an appropriate size and style to complement the cabinetry This view of the kitchen featuring the rich old fashioned tones of the custom alder cabinetry with frameless full overlay doors in a shaker split door style and balanced by the Geriba Beach granite with a full backsplash. The countertop is one of the focal points of the kitchen. The countertop selected was Geriba Beach Granite which is Brazilian granite noted for its 'great movement'. It is an ivory colored granite with very rich random patterns of burnt amber which complements the wood tones of the cabinetry. It features crystals that display an opalescent quality providing the granite a three dimensional character that, according to the homeowner, 'sparkle' when highlighted. A full height backsplash was cut from the same slab as the countertop and provides continuity and visual appeal. To avoid dark surfaces, eight 6" recessed dimmable lights were strategically located for perimeter task lighting, and either SNL LED under cabinet lights were used as well. Shaw Medin 18" square porcelain floor tile in a lighter tone helps create the illusion of a larger space with less grout joints.

The kitchen is now placed where the former dining room was located. The flow of the space improves significantly while making use of all of the wasted space there once was.

This lovely Thousand Oaks home was completely remodeled throughout. Spaces included in this project were the kitchen, four bathrooms, office, entertainment room and master suite. Custom walnut cabinetry was given a clear coat finish to allow the natural wood color to stand out and be admired.
