A coastal Scandinavian renovation project, combining a Victorian seaside cottage with Scandi design. We wanted to create a modern, open-plan living space but at the same time, preserve the traditional elements of the house that gave it it's character.

Designing cabinetry so that it unifies disparate elements of a room’s architecture can be challenging. Even complex forms can express a natural grace, through eased elements and flowing forms. With Jaeger & Ernst, the custom kitchen, although more than the sum of its parts, merits focused attention in the design each of its components. The Greene & Greene brothers architects were exceptional masters of such designs, integrating room architecture with furniture: truly the ultimate bungalows! Pegs worked by hand bring the work of the cabinet maker to a higher level of craftsmanship. Design integration is always in service to the client - the user of the space! The brief for this unique kitchen was for it to be ‘a huge piece of furniture’. Well….. challenge accepted. To achieve this goal, we knew that we needed to approach the design from the details outwards, so we started with the cabinet doors. As the kitchen was to be over three levels rather than the traditional two, and because we wanted to articulate the idea of ‘furniture’ rather than ‘kitchen cabinets’, we designed three complimentary cabinet doors, each with their own personalities. Door pulls and pan hooks were made from beautiful hexagonal brass rods, and drawers were lined for cutlery, utensils and cookware. A slim shelf above the splashback provided a place for kitchen essentials like salt and oil. The mid-level of the kitchen was kept clean and uncluttered by means of our signature F+B ‘School House’ off-white lacquer, so that the wood didn’t feel overpowering. But the main event is the truss shelf that spans the open side of the kitchen like a portal frame. This beautifully detailed piece of Japanese-inspired design gives space for the client’s collection of Asian ceramics, and for our bespoke Japanese shoji paper lanterns, which light the space. A unique kitchen, handmade like only a furniture maker could.

We layed out this kitchen with as much separation as possible between the sink/washing area and cooking/prep area. Lots of custom storage solutions like drawers that hold dishes, spices and knives. We tried to mimimize the amount of walking and bumping into each other by having everything well thought out and located. The new 9' window brings in a ton of light & air and a view of the great backyard. We did natural cherry to blend in with the rest of the house's original gum wood moldings & doors.

ダウンフロアリビングが特徴的な住まいです。 三方が住宅に囲まれた密集地で、道路より敷地が約40㎝高くなっていました。 その敷地の高低差を利用し、リビングの床の高さを低くしています。 通常は、敷地が高い場合、玄関前のポーチ階段により、数段上がって家に入ります。 荻曽根の家では、家の中で徐々に上がるようにしました。 そして、2階の床も少し上げています。 2階の少し床をあげることにより、1階と2階のつながりが生まれ、下記の点のメリットがでています。 ・視線の抜け、広がり感 ・家族間のコミュニケーション ・風の抜け ・採光をとりやすくなる リビングは、南側からの採光を高窓から主に採り入れています。 隣家からのプライバシーも保ちやすいです。 さらに、視線の抜けや広がり感を演出し、1階と2階で家族のコミュニケーションも取りやすくなっています。

The tall cabinetry to the right utilizes sliding doors to reveal corner storage space. This is Woodawys' unique solution to the typical angled cabinet or lazy susan. By using sliding doors, we can maximize visibility into the cabinet as well as keep a sleek contemporary design aesthetic.

Galley Kitchen designed as a piece of furniture as Kitchen is main access point to Familyroom. American Walnut veneer was specifically laid so all panels could be perfectly matched. this was selected to compliment the Sheoak Timber Floor. Gloss metallic & black glass door panels compliment the black glass & stainless sleel features of the appliances. Led strip lights as uplighter, slashback & skirtings give additional light to the room.

This goal of this studio condo remodel was to make the space feel like a high-end hotel suite. This condo is the client's city place - their home away from home and they wanted it to feel like a luxury escape. The walnut and white matte lacquer cabinets provide a crisp, yet warm and cozy feel in the space. The walnut bath vanity is a perfect contrast to the clean white walls and tile.
