What we have here is an expansive space perfect for a family of 5. Located in the beautiful village of Tewin, Hertfordshire, this beautiful home had a full renovation from the floor up. The clients had a vision of creating a spacious, open-plan contemporary kitchen which would be entertaining central and big enough for their family of 5. They booked a showroom appointment and spoke with Alina, one of our expert kitchen designers. Alina quickly translated the couple’s ideas, taking into consideration the new layout and personal specifications, which in the couple’s own words “Alina nailed the design”. Our Handleless Flat Slab design was selected by the couple with made-to-measure cabinetry that made full use of the room’s ceiling height. All cabinets were hand-painted in Pitch Black by Farrow & Ball and slatted real wood oak veneer cladding with a Pitch Black backdrop was dotted around the design. All the elements from the range of Neff appliances to décor, blended harmoniously, with no one material or texture standing out and feeling disconnected. The overall effect is that of a contemporary kitchen with lots of light and colour. We are seeing lots more wood being incorporated into the modern home today. Other features include a breakfast pantry with additional drawers for cereal and a tall single-door pantry, complete with internal drawers and a spice rack. The kitchen island sits in the middle with an L-shape kitchen layout surrounding it. We also flowed the same design through to the utility.

Davonport Holkham shaker-style cabinetry with exposed butt hinges was chosen for a classic look and its smaller proportions in this Victorian country kitchen. Hand painted in a beautiful light stone (Slate 11 – from Paint & Paper Library) and heritage green (Farrow & Ball’s studio green), the colour scheme provides the perfect canvas for the antique-effect brushed brass accessories. A traditional style white porcelain butler sink with brass taps is positioned in front of the large sash window, providing a stylish focal point when you enter the room. Then at the heart of the kitchen is a freestanding-style island (topped with the same white quartz worktop as the rest of the room). Designed with plenty of storage in the way of cupboards and drawers (as well as breakfast bar seating for 2), it acts as a prep table that is positioned in easy reach of the professional quality Miele induction hob and ovens. These elements help nod to the heritage of the classic country kitchen that would have originally been found in the property. Out of the main cooking zone, but in close proximity to seating on the island, a breakfast cupboard/drinks cabinet houses all of Mr Edward’s coffee gadgets at worktop level. Above, several shelves finished with opulent mirrored glass and back-lit lights showcase the couples’ selection of fine cut glassware. This creates a real wow feature in the evening and can be seen from the couples’ large round walnut dining table which is positioned with views of the English-country garden. The overall style of the kitchen is classic, with a very welcoming and homely feel. It incorporates pieces of charming antique furniture with the clean lines of the hand painted Davonport cabinets marrying the old and the new.

A marble hearth behind the La Cornue range and brass trimmed hood center under a graceful herring bone brick barrel ceiling. Last time this kitchen has been touched was about 35 years ago, the couple asked to open up the pantry and peninsula to an island and that created a ton of space in the living / dining room all the way to the kitchen. We also put new flooring throughout the house and the fireplace We helped designing the kitchen and the clients supreme taste in finished materials led these beautiful photos.

The kitchen got new life with updated custom cabinets and storage accessories that make it more efficient, and a bit more sophisticated. The tall ceilings, open concept, and big windows give the feel of bridging the outdoors to the interior spaces. The warm wood floors and custom hood help soften the black and white palette. While the natural walnut detail tie in the natural walnut railing in the staircase. The blown glass Jamie Young Bridgette pendants play well with the quartz. Silestone quartz in Classic Calacatta with it's light veining complement without overpowering the space. The full height backsplash keep in step with a timeless look.
