This project was a long labor of love. The clients adored this eclectic farm home from the moment they first opened the front door. They knew immediately as well that they would be making many careful changes to honor the integrity of its old architecture. The original part of the home is a log cabin built in the 1700’s. Several additions had been added over time. The dark, inefficient kitchen that was in place would not serve their lifestyle of entertaining and love of cooking well at all. Their wish list included large pro style appliances, lots of visible storage for collections of plates, silverware, and cookware, and a magazine-worthy end result in terms of aesthetics. After over two years into the design process with a wonderful plan in hand, construction began. Contractors experienced in historic preservation were an important part of the project. Local artisans were chosen for their expertise in metal work for one-of-a-kind pieces designed for this kitchen – pot rack, base for the antique butcher block, freestanding shelves, and wall shelves. Floor tile was hand chipped for an aged effect. Old barn wood planks and beams were used to create the ceiling. Local furniture makers were selected for their abilities to hand plane and hand finish custom antique reproduction pieces that became the island and armoire pantry. An additional cabinetry company manufactured the transitional style perimeter cabinetry. Three different edge details grace the thick marble tops which had to be scribed carefully to the stone wall. Cable lighting and lamps made from old concrete pillars were incorporated. The restored stone wall serves as a magnificent backdrop for the eye- catching hood and 60” range. Extra dishwasher and refrigerator drawers, an extra-large fireclay apron sink along with many accessories enhance the functionality of this two cook kitchen. The fabulous style and fun-loving personalities of the clients shine through in this wonderful kitchen. If you don’t believe us, “swing” through sometime and see for yourself! PROJECT FOCUS
The Kitchen involved opening up the layout to give the space more width to allow for an island bench. Retaining the character of the home, we kept the vintage jarrah floorrboards and high ceilings with addition of bulkheads above cabinets and new cornicing to match the era of the home.
Alair Homes South Tampa
During the planning phase we undertook a fairly major Value Engineering of the design to ensure that the project would be completed within the clients budget. The client identified a ‘Fords Garage’ style that they wanted to incorporate. They wanted an open, industrial feel, however, we wanted to ensure that the property felt more like a welcoming, home environment; not a commercial space. A Fords Garage typically has exposed beams, ductwork, lighting, conduits, etc. But this extent of an Industrial style is not ‘homely’. So we incorporated tongue and groove ceilings with beams, concrete colored tiled floors, and industrial style lighting fixtures.
During construction the client designed the courtyard, which involved a large permit revision and we went through the full planning process to add that scope of work.
The finished project is a gorgeous blend of industrial and contemporary home style.

We had so much fun updating this Old Town loft! We painted the shaker cabinets white and the island charcoal, added white quartz countertops, white subway tile and updated plumbing fixtures. Industrial lighting by Kichler, counter stools by Gabby, sofa, swivel chair and ottoman by Bernhardt, and coffee table by Pottery Barn. Rug by Dash and Albert.
Timeless Design by Jeff Sandifer
Unique rectilinear range hood! Our groovy design was fabricated by the custom woodworkers of Crystal Cabinetry and houses professional grade ventilation. The brass stanchions echo the nautical feeling of the room.

This kitchen is headquarters for Australian chef Dan Churchill. The kitchen — previously a walk-in cooler in a Nolita basement — provides Churchill with a clean and bright backdrop in which to develop and document his colorful dishes. A faux window mimics the effects of natural light, while shallow track lighting provides videographers with flexibility during filming sessions. Non-toxic and sustainable materials echo the healthy plates crafted by Churchill.

Our roots actually lay in custom cabinet making. That's probably why we always jump at the opportunity to help local custom cabinet shops ease their production times. This job was one of them. J. Murphy brought us in for cabinetry that would compliment the custom island they built for this #noyack home. Whether it's a time or a budget restraint, we are here to help all our local cabinet makers achieve the vision their homeowner's are dreaming of.

This industrial kitchen is in a contemporary new build in Kennebunkport, Maine. The goal was to keep the lines simple and to create great work spaces. There is ample room on both side of the sink for prep work as well as on the island. There is a great deal of storage in this kitchen for a busy family.
